I looked and couldn't find anyone else who has asked these questions about Titanium yet so I thought I would see if anyone could answer them for me.

I have wiped data and restored my apps twice with Titanium so far. It all works well, but two minor problems. First, every time I do it all of my previous call logs, and all of my previous handcent text messages also get reset. Is there a way I can restore all of these as well?

Also is there a way I can restore my non-gmail email account so I do not have to go through the whole set up of putting in the incoming and outgoing settings all over again. It isn't a huge deal, but it does get annoying redoing the path, the port and the security every single time.

I might just not be doing the correct restore as I only do the batch restore missing apps with data and not all apps with data, but I do not know for sure. Thanks in advance for any help.

Well today I tried batch restoring all apps with data, and it worked to get me my call log, and all my old text messages back. Unfortunately, it gave me some other problems with the ROM. I assumed it was because of what I was doing with the Titanium Backup restore so I reflashed the ROM and just did the normal restore missing apps and app data, and poof no more problems, but also still no old text messages or call logs.

So if anyone has another way to just get those back, and the email settings that would be great. But I think I am going to stick with SS 4.7 for a while as I have tried a couple other ROMs and like this one the best.

if you tried to batch restore all your apps, your issue might be you restored old stock apps and data over newer stock apps and data.

this is why I would not, nor ever, Batch restore. batch backup is great, but batch restore unless you know for a fact your backup is the same apps and data as your current ROM, you might have issues.

to get back old text messages or call logs, just pick to restore these apps and IIRC in Titanium you will then be given the option to just restore their data. If so, do just the data.

Personally, I use MyBackup Pro more and you can in fact specify you want to just restore things like the call log and text messages as those are under the "data restore" option.

Call logs and such information is stored under system settings - but restoring *all* system settings can actually cause problems.

The best thing to do is make full backups of all your ROMs every time regularly, and especially just before you go to install a new ROM.

However, when it comes to restoring it, here is what I do for the best results.

    1. wipe data and cache, format boot / system if I am installing a new ROM - it helps weed out idiosyncrasies that come from upgrading from one ROM to another...
    2. Sign in to my primary Google account, and then immediately go to setting sand see if it has synched all of my WiFi connections - if so, then enable the best one I am closest to
    3. Wait about 10 minutes for all my apps to finish installing on their own
    4. Reboot the phone
    5. Run the following batch (after all apps have been reloaded and you've rebooted at least once): Restore all apps with data - but, I do it differently - Up at the top I select data only as all the apps have already been installed / are in System / did not come with this particular ROM, so restoring the apps themselves is pointless and can cause instabilities....
    6. Reboot again. This may cause some issues in that it will reset your home screens to what they looked like before if you're not using the stock home screen, but no widgets will show - known issue in Android, you have to re-place all of your widgets by hand.
    7. After restoring your apps' settings, now most of your stuff should be good. Now it is time to restore your system settings. Run The batch Restore missing apps + system data as follows: Press uncheck all. next, scroll through the list - anything that syncs with Google account (contacts, GMail, Calendar, etc.) Do not check. You're looking for items that are in green - those are system items that can be safely restored, but you don't want to do all of the green ones - kinda taking a big chance. A few good ones are the following:
      • [BOOKMARKS] Browser
      • [CONTACTS/CALLS] Contacts Storage
      • [SMS/MMS/APN] Dialer Storage
      • [PLAYLISTS] Media Storage
      • [SMS/MMS PREFS] Messaging
      • Accounts
      • Application Widgets
      • [USER DICT] com.android.providers.userdictionary <-- (may not be there in your phone)
      • [VOICEMAIL] Dialer

All of the rest SHOULD be synced to and restored from your Google account automatically.

DO NOT RESTORE THE ONES IN RED AT ALL!

The ones in gray are application specific, so you can pick and choose any of those as well if you have the application back but its settings are still not there.

good tips.. I like and I like the detail here. thanks for that.

1 question.. okay, I have calendar entries that were imported from 10 years of Palm data. It does NOT sync up with my online calendar sadly - that is a whole different issue with bug reports to Google and others experiencing the same issue and the presumption is that our calendars are so big, it is an issue - so me having my calendar data locally is more up to date then online and critical for me. So, I would presume it would be cool to restore just the calendar data - not the app - to get all my local huge 10 year calendar back.. agreed?

yup - in your case (and cases similar where you have manually imported calendar data) it would be wise to include it in that list.

I used Titanium yesterday (restore all apps and data) and it did not restore my text messages (but call log was there). Fortunately, I also had them backed up with MyBackup Pro, so I restored just that, and was fine. Titanium did, however, restore all of my Handcent settings, so that was great. I use about 3 different backup methods, hoping to cover all the bases!

Did you reboot your phone? You usually have to reboot before you see your SMS messages reloaded.

Honestly, I don't recall... but it was not a big deal for me at the time because I had them backed up elsewhere. I will keep that in mind next time, though.

Yes, if you have that setting checked in your "privacy" settings. I actually find it to be faster to restore them through a backup restore. Reloading all of them through the market is slow... but it is automatic. Given that I want to restore all of my apps' data too (I think of that data as similar to cookies), this step is superfluous to me. I like to just "restore apps and data" through Titanium.

well i have that set but the last time I changed roms I tried to let it sit for 30 mins and only the paid apps showed up. I must be restoring things wrong in titanium as well because When i do a batch restore I have to install each app manually I would like to just hit a button and have it go to work on its own and do the whole reinstall by itself.

When I open Titanium Backup the superuser request window pops up over and over again. Anyone have this issue? I searched but didn't come across any similar post.

I hate the idea of being a thread necro, but this seems like the perfect spot for a small question such as mine which is related to the thread. Which, in my opinion, is better than a new thread since this will be found on search engines first.

The question: What IS [VOICEMAIL] Dialer ?
More specifically the "green" system app in Titanium Backup, v2.3.4 (version not important I suppose).

The rest of this post is unneccessary information, unless you're as bored as I am.
I was using Titanium Backup to restore system applications tonight, I generally avoid it unless I just want my most recent SMS messages back after a couple quick ROM changes (flashes) where people happened to TXT me in-between changes. Then I suddenly had an interest in finding out what each of the system apps do specifically, and I found almost everything I wanted to know via Google.. except this. I guess everyone else already knows what it is =D  ... or I'm searching for the wrong things.

johnlgalt [Guide] above recommended it as a "good one" to restore; why?

Since it's green I can safely assume it is safer to restore that system app data over a red color coded system app.

I use Google Voice for voicemail.. so maybe it will save / restore that information. Or maybe it does nothing more than dial Verizon's standard voicemail. Or maybe it's the Dialer preferences. I ran out of guesses.

This is the free version of TiBu, one of those little nuisances to get you to buy the full version. Not that I have a problem with buying TiBu, it

I have pro version but what I am reading you have to have the free version first then add the pro version. Problem is this one rom has TiBu pro installed and when I run it thinks its the free version. I guess I need to know how to delete TiBu from the Rom.

The rom _shouldn't_ have the pro version installed, that would be wrong. I was going to say try re downloading your pro version from the market, but IIRC Titanium only offer the pro license via PayPal? If that is the case you should be able to enter your license key the same way you did before.

Hard to say. It _could_ be phone specific in some cases. And for that reason I'm going to ask you post be moved to the proper section of this site as your profie states Galaxy mini and this is the Droid 1 section.

hi, TIBU wont restore apps, I did a full system + app backup, then I transferred the contents of that backup folder from my sd card to my macbook, I then deleted the backup from my sd card, leaving just the empty TIBU folder on the sd card. I then proceeded to un-install some bloatware like twitter, weather, facebook, HTC Hub etc, (thinking I was safe because I had a full backup on my mac that I could transfer back into the empty TIBU folder on my sd card and re-install). so, I transferred the full system + app backup, from my macbook, back into the empty TIBU folder on my sd card and turned on TIBU on my phone. TIBU CAN SEE the un-installed apps, they are gray font with a gray line through them, also they have an orange smiley face next to them, when I click on them, they give me the option to restore, so, I click restore and a gray box appears with a circle inside showing me its doing something, this would stay like this for hrs if I let it, it does not restore and I have to reboot my phone to make it stop. I thought my transferring of the data from sd card to macbook and back might have corrupted something so I experimented: not leaving TIBU I made a backup of calculator as this was a system app in red font, I then uninstalled it (same gray font + line), then immediately tried to restore it again, NOTHING, just the same problem as above. what is the point of TIBU if it won't restore system apps, I've searched the web for a solution to this gray font and line problem. for such a big app I'm surprised theirs not more info on this, I'm at a dead end, some of the apps I un-installed are not in the market. I have not installed a new rom after root, all i did was download go launcher and changed a theme, sorry for the long sermon, i just wanted to explain fully, is there no way to get these apps back on my phone, there just sitting on my macbook in zip files,,,,,,thank you

This is the Motorola DROID forum - it sounds like you have an HTC phone - which one? I'll then move your post to the right forum.

Also, Macs have a bad habit of extracting files when moving them using the MacOS finder - were the original files .ZIPped?

And next time don't bother moving them from your SDCard....

The mac will also add a resource fork to all files. When the files are copied to a PC or other operating system (Android) it will copy these resource fork files as well. They are named "._filename" and can be safely deleted on PC or Droid.

this may interfere with your restore.
