ok so i just posted this in a thread but i feel it deserved to be posted on the thread lists in its own! its very useful for saving information after deleting the home screen app.

so anyone who has a custom recovery, boot into recovery!
tbh i don't know if you can boot into regular recovery and still do this but ehhh!

after your in recovery connect your phone to your computer and open a command prompt

CD in the command prompt to your platform tools *aka the ADB folder*
Example Mine Is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools

while in recovery "if your using either one of these 2.2.1 or 2.2
go to mounts, and mount the system.
then in the command prompt type "adb push (LG HOME FILE LOCATION) /system/app/
after thats pushed type adb shell
once it shows "/ #" on the command window type "chmod 644 /system/app/LGHome.apk"

once you have done that on your phone unmount the system. then reboot and BOOM! you have your LG home screen back WITHOUT having to format and lose everything ;)

by the way the home apk HAS to be named exactly like this! LGHome.apk

if anyone needs to know how to get the APK, you can extract if from a rom or i'll be more than happy to give em to you, :) JUST KNOW if your on 2.2 you have to get LGHome from a 2.2 rom, and same concept for 2.2.1, get it from a 2.2.1 rom.

I rooted my optimus M step by step based on

Root 2.2.1 and get Data WORKING!!!

Missed to install "Custom Recovery" and deleted LG Home.apk

Now I'm stuck in the Android screen.

    Any solution for this issue?

If only I could remotely enable USB debuggin through my PC. I would have been sorted.

Could MetroPCS, restore the unit to Factory OEM for me?

lol well you can restore it to rooted stock yourself with that thread, simply redoing it from step 1 would work. as far as pushing LGHome.apk to your phone without a custom recovery it might be a luck of the draw if you can do it though androids stock recovery. but for that one to stay up you would have to have your phone already connected before you boot up.

    customer service at it's best....

and then I rooted the new one.. voila!!

    I feel weirdly guilty....:p

haha you got a nice sales rep x)! rooting voids warranty and some would have told you tough cookies, even if it was within 30 days xD!

glad you successfully rooted though :D! if you ever find a good replacement for your launcher, make sure to never uninstall it if you then choose to remove LGhome.apk as android needs access to ANY launcher thats stored on phone memory to boot up right :D

in my case i replaced LGHome with GO Launcher EX. lol x)
