Ok, so like many here, I'm new to the whole rooting thing. My question is this: Since there still seems to be bugs with 2.1 (root or leak), if I root my phone now, will I still be able to update it to the official (hopefully bug-free) OS when Verizon eventually releases it?

If so, what's the reason NOT to root?

Yes. And none, if you like tinkering with electronics to make them more "you". If you're not too sure about doing it or don't know what you're doing, then don't. The chances of screwing up and bricking your phone are better if you don't know what to do, even though so far this hasn't happened to my knowledge.

I advise not to root right now...I'd give it a few days for the devs to test it out and figure out what will cause probs and what won't. I'm in the irc channel right now and they are advising that you do nothing to your phone right now. For instance, if you remove footprints, you will completely mess it up.

Yup, kinda like the rule to never buy a new car the first year the new model comes out...
