what version are you currently on with your desire? any release for froyo? any info?
I've heard that its being released in late fall
Running this on my Telus Desire.
If you're planning to wait until Telus releases the update, based on past experience (HTC Touch and GPS update anyone?), wait until all the other carriers have released updates for their phones, then wait 6 more months. Example, the Telus Hero is still running 1.5!
Yeah, if you're fine with the way the Desire is right now then stick with that (root if you want) otherwise if you want 2.2 then do it right now because as 2kfire said, Telus are notoriously slow at OS updates. I said elsewhere that I have feelings it'll not be til after Christmas when Telus pushes 2.2 OTA. Even the Milestone's 2.2 is delayed until Jan-Mar 2011.
That's fine by me, everyone else can work out the bugs. I want something that is solid not rushed out to the market for the impatient people who won't even utilize it anyway lol hilarious I say!
Just rooted my Desire last night. Now it's running with LeeDroid 2.0a.
Can't wait for Telus official Froyo OTA.
Motorola is holding back the Milestone 2.2 update not Telus.
Froyo is an update to the android OS, not a complete redesign or major revision. As such, and as is the case with MOST software updates, it's more stable than builds of the previous version, in this case Eclair (as per reviews, read Gizmodo's review of Froyo for starters). Add to that the new features (including saving apps to external memory, wi-fi hotspot, and the speed improvements) and there is no reason NOT to update.
But hey, it's not like anybody would utilize more speed and the ability to store more apps, right?
Besides, the update mentioned above is an official HTC release and I don't think they'd kill sales of one of their hottest phones by releasing a buggy update.
So others can wait for the official Telus update, which might not come until gingerbread's released on other carriers, "that's fine by me". I'll continue enjoying my unbranded HTC update along with my up to 2.5x speed boost that I won't even utilize anyway
Perhaps, but Telus are also slow with Blackberry updates as well (and RIM is Canadian).
As much as we want to blame the carrier it is Motorola. They are holding the update from everyone until q1 2011 except for Europe which is Q4 2010
How are you going to install the official OTA after rooting and running a custom rom? Did you manage to locate a RUU of default stock telus desire?
Offical OTA is no longer available after running custom ROM I believe.
Mine is currently running with LeeDroid 2.1.
I believe so as well. I tried a usb update and it bricked my phone lol.
Sorry, it's a bit off topic.
Can anyone please confirm if Telus network supports Chinese SMS. I don't have any problem to sending out Chinese SMS but receiving it. It's all in symbols & letters...
Lol isn't Mandarin just all symbols anyways?
What is your locale set to? Also try downloading moreloacles 2 and setting to chinese to see if that does anything?
I already set my locale to Chinese (HK) since my phone rooted but it still doesn't work.
