I did a search and was not able to find anything similar to my situation.

I went on vacation this past weekend. When I was on the plane, I switched my Motorola Droid (unrooted) Version 2.0.1 to plane mode so I can watch movies during the flight.

After the flight, I switched it back to normal mode and the lower portion of my touch screen stopped working. To be exact, if you bring up the dial pad, I can not dial the numbers 7 - 8 - 9 (that area of the touch screen does not register).

I have tried pulling my battery and "reformatting" but nothing has worked.

Has anyone had a similar problem or know of a solution?

    I haven't seen this before.

Does it happen all the time for other apps?

I would suggest taking it to VZW to get it replaced.

Yeah, I took it to VZW yesterday and they had no clue on fixing it. They are sending me a replacement but was hoping there was a fix to this problem.

I put my Droid on airplane mode all the time when I'm at work (shitty reception in the bottom floor of my building) but I have never experienced that.

I hope that your replacement works better...:D

For what its worth, for anyone Googling this issue, I have the same problem. Basically, regions of the screen seem to be dead. In my case, I have an additional issue where the top portion of the screen is inaccurate to the the touch. There has been no identifiable trauma to the Droid.

I will be bringing the phone in for replacement in the morning.

I just had the same problem today. The 1 key in portrait mode would only type a 2. Then, in landscape, the space key would only do the letter keys just above it. And my back home key was just dead. I"m going to take it into Verizon tomorrow.

I have this very same issue with the Motorola Droid 1 series. I have spent at leat 8 hours on the phone with tech support and another two hours yesterday at the verizon store. No results were found. I have been sent a second phone that ultimately had the same issue. Two phones exact same issue. What gives? This did not seem to be application related. The touchscreen on the right side goes dead and the phone deteriates from there. I had Verizon upgrade to the Motorola Droid 2, but it is beyond me on what is causing this issue. I lost total control of my phone and could not make calls without it hanging up on me or even better, conf calling someone on its own. Verizon wanted to make this my problem, but I spent the money for the phome, I want it to work past two months which was the life span of both phones.

I'm having exactly the same problem. Can't dial 7, 8, 9 etc. Wonder what the issue is. I wouldn't think it would be damage since most of us are experiencing the issues in exactly the same places.

    Then I see:

Almost makes me want to shy away from Motorola.
