Touchscreen not responding - idea for use

My OG Droid touchscreen finally stopped responding, but I want to see if there is a way to still use it as a gauge display in my car (using Torque).

The main issue is that I did a reset on it (hoping the issue was software related) and now I am stuck at the "Welcome to Droid - Touch the android to begin" screen which I can't bypass - keep in mind, the touchscreen is not working.

Any ideas out there? Keep in mind:

1) Stock setup, no custom recovery installed.
2) Touchscreen not responding, but keyboard does work.

So here is what I did:

1) Used the Windows directions here to flash Cyan 7.2

2) Used this program to control the phone over abd

androidscreencast - Desktop app to control an android device remotely - Google Project Hosting

So far so good... the touchscreen is broken, but the phone will work as a display only device.

Thanks for posting back, and what a novel way to get it working even with a dead touchscreen!

Well I got the OG Droid, back in late 2009 I think and it has worked like a champ since then, so almost 3 years of service.

My goal is to make it a in-car gauge display (using Torque).

Yeah, mine is in perfect working condition, and I bought it release day.
