Touchscreen started going nuts last week...Support

    I've had my EVO since early June without any major problems until last week. Since then the touchscreen freezes regularly and I have to hit the power button off and on just to get it active again. Also, it appears that sometimes the touchscreen takes on a life of its own, and other times it won't let me hit certain buttons at all. For example, when typing a "5" on the keypad it will only return "7" instead (sometimes "9" or "0"). I don't even bother writing emails longer than a few words anymore; after entering a couple of lines the keyboard goes nuts and won't let me select half the letters.

    I don't know if this is due to a defective digitizer or what. The phone has never been dropped and hasn't been near water. I know trying to get a replacement is going to be a nightmare. I bought it at and have heard nothing but horror stories about trying to get it swapped through them locally. And don't get me started about calling VirginMobile's support line...

    i actually read before it isnt that bad dealing with vm about a defective phone under warranty.that they take care of everything with the manufacturer.its worth a call imo.

    now for radioshack i dont think i would ever buy anything from them again.when i had to return an evo there due to battery problems i was told they only do 1 replacement.then you either have to buy a warranty through them or use the warranty that came with the phone.i was even told if the phone i got as a replacement was doa they wouldnt take it back.

    You might just want to try resetting the digitizer. Like everything there's an app for that. It just deletes the current digitizer data and the phone will recreate it on reboot. Easiest way to find the app since I can't remember where I got it or what it's called (haven't needed it with this phone but used it on my tablet) is a search of XDA perhaps with reset digitizer as the phrase. Or someone can chime in with the name or download or market link.

    Contacted VM Support. After spending an hour on hold, speaking with four support reps, assuring them that my EVO was neither dropped nor splashed with water, they finally agreed to ship me a replacement within two to five business days. Fingers crossed that the new one will work out just fine.

    The replacement phone arrived quickly via overnight courier yesterday afternoon, but now I'm in activation hell. Despite doing everything in the proper sequence for a successful activation, my new EVO still isn't set up. After my fourth call to VM tech support, and having them run through all the usual options yet again, I was told there's an active issue with the provisioning process that should be resolved within 24 hours. I'm supposed to call back tomorrow again if my EVO still won't activate on its own after the 24 hours have elapsed.

    The saga continues...

    So, after waiting 24 hours, as instructed by VM tech support (see above), I called them back yet again as my EVO still would not activate. After another 45 minutes on the phone with them, jumping through all the usual hoops, my conversation took an odd turn and went a little something like this:

    VM Guy: "Umm...Where did you get this phone?"
    Me: "From you. This is a replacement you guys shipped to me three days ago."
    VM Guy: "Well, it appears that the serial number isn't registered with our network."
    Me: "I don't know what to tell you. This is a VM phone shipped to me by VM. Do you normally ship phones with bad serial numbers?"
    VM Guy: "Uh...Let me check on something...[Several minutes pass]...Sir, we're going to have to send you another replacement phone. Sorry for the inconvenience."

    And there you have it. Another EVO is on its way and I should have it tomorrow afternoon. If this one also has activation problems like my last two (three if you count my wife's EVO), I'm going to freak out.
