I heard that the treackball has red, blue, green and white colors, but I have seen no vids or pictures showing this. Is it true?

i heard a rumor that google will enable the trackball color thingy whenever they enable multitouch. the later is supposedly postponed to 2020, which is supposedly when android gets its first decent keyboard and first decent facebook app.

Very Vibrant colors there. Assuming they can be mixed to create other colors.

If this is a feature that is locked then Google need to have a word with themselves for stating it as a feature in the press conference

    Absolutely.

Pisses me off to no end. I relied heavily on these varied notifications.

What sucks is that LED customizing is supposed to be "fixed" in the next OTA...but it does not include the trackball.

None of it makes sense ((unless google releases some killer customizing app)).

Heres what I got from the google website on the colors for the track ball with link at the end

The status light (to the right of the earpiece) and the Trackball change colors, flash, or glow briefly to inform you of the charging status of the phone and other important information.
The status bar at the top of the touchscreen also provides information about the phone, as described in Monitoring your phone's status and Managing notifications.
    Status light

    Status light state
    Meaning
    Green
Fully charged (when connected to charger)
    Amber
    Charging (when connected to charger)
    Flashing red
    Battery low

    Trackball

    Trackball state
    Meaning
    Flashing white
    Incoming call.
    Flashing blue
Incoming call when connected to a Bluetooth headset.
    White pulse
Notification received. You can configure the trackball to pulse once or repeatedly when you receive a new notification. See Sound & display settings.

also here is the link for this

we knew all of this - its basically (only) white for messages, blue when a bluetooth call is incoming, and the status led is only for battery...thats why everyone is pissed, because this is a basic feature that is locked down for no reason

Yeh, I read this too so didn't expect it to work on stock apps. But on the Nexus One Phone - Feature overview & Technical specifications it lists 'Tri-Color clickable trackball', which would make me think it's like multi-touch; it can do it, but it just needs someone else to tell it to. Alas.

I'm really stumped as to why this feature is disable. Stumped I tells ya!

I read a post made by a Google staff member over at the google support forums, and he talked like Google hadn't thought of using the colors for alerts(email, texts, etc..) I wouldn't be surprised to see this function activated or added in a software update.

Personally, I'm not rooting. For starters, it voids your warranty which I kind of like having. As the previous poster mentioned, it will probably be added in a future software update.

That said... I want it now ;)

it makes a lot of sense to color notifications for email, sms & voicemail differently for example. this is great for while in silent mode, and also when you are in loud places, etc...

or you can assign specific colors to certain important people. i am surprised this was nerfed.

but then again, so is multitouch.
