Is there a way to designate another button (maybe one of the volume buttons on the side of the handset) for snapping pictures? Using the trackball can be problematic especially when trying to do self portraits.

Any idea if it is possible to write an app that might provide a fix?

I do not believe that there is another button on the actual phone that you can designate at the shutter button, but if you tap and hold the screen it will take the picture just as if you pressed the trackball

    Hope this helps

If you touch & hold the screen - it will also snap a picture. Takes a second, but it does work.

Use the the self timer. Pictures will be less blurry too since there will be less camera shake too.
