I've had the Sammy for 2 weeks. I love the screen but....

The GPS problems - I travel a lot and use directions/Places a LOT.

    Lack of 2.2 and Flash.

I've had the Droid X for about 2 months. And I gotta tell ya, the Sammy screen is super but the shortcomings are really beginning to make me think I am going to sell it.

PS: Just read about screen burn in on the date time. Darn!!!

Based on another forums it looks like the GPS problem is gone with FROYO 2.2 which is being tested in Korea. As for Flash I don't even care for too much. It work horrible on the Droid but hopefully it will be way better on this device.

The short-comings you mentioned are all going to be fixed in the short term though. If you love the look of the Samsung screen, that is not something you can change on the X.

Yep. I believe Froyo is coming but it really chaps me that Verizon and Sammy would send this device, with its SUPER screen, out for sale - crippled. Knowing it is less than it can be.

Every phone is going to have advantages and disadvantages. Just be thankful that most of the ones for the Fascinate are going to be fixed very shortly.

For the average user who doesn't root their phone, this fix (w/ froyo) won't be received until probably late November at the earliest. It says a lot about Samsung to leave its customers in the dark about a proper fix for the GPS, an issue that has surfaced since the first US Galaxy S phone.

If these problems we're addressed..I would have kept it! I miss the screen and the zippy OS! But a weak signal, and BS problems were just not helping me make this my everyday phone. I still say it has the beat form factor and screen out of any other Android device out there.

The GPS is fixed on the Vibrant, they are still rolling out the update so I dont see why you wouldnt be getting it soon when they start rolling it out for your phone

Really? How are we in the dark? We know its on their known issue list. We know they are working on a fix. If they dont have anything else to report then they wont. They are not going to hold your hand at every step of the way just because you are crying, "Are we there yet? Are we there yet?" on the GPS issue.

I experienced the GPS issue with the Captivate and after almost 3 months returned it, many thanks to AT&T for helping with that one. If you rely on GPS that much, I would not keep the phone. There are Captivate posts regarding the leaked Froyo build, users are reporting that the GPS issue is still there. So don't go past your 30 days waiting for a miracle only to find out the GPS will be slightly improved or not at all. That would be my recommendation to you.

I think what some people are trying to say is Samsung is terrible with updates! And if you really think about it, they are! When you compare them to the likes of Moto and HTC it's a joke, as far paying attention to their product! This was really their first true splash into the Android ocean with the release of the Galaxy S line. Their next line should be insane, and hopefully they will be better with updates and getting bugs fixed in a timely fashion.

Tell me there is NOT a high percentage of Galaxy S users who are avid GPS users wondering if and when Samsung will fix the issues with their phone. Keep in mind the percentage of owners who actually root their phone to apply a potential fix is pretty small. What happens with these customers? They return their phone. I have a friend at a Best Buy and a friend at a Verizon store that both say they have an excessive number of returns, in comparison to other phones, due to customers having gripes about the GPS, lag, or sound quality. Guess what has happened to a friend of a friend who was apparently past his 30 day window and attempted to get the phone replaced by Samsung? They told him they are working on the issue and cannot replace this phone at this time but that they should have a fix shortly. While Samsung is the root of the problem by deciding to sell the US Galaxy line prior to correcting GPS issues that had already plagued the EU line, the retailers aren't any better. In another thread I described my fun at a Verizon store where the sales person attempted to push a Fascinate into my hands, I expressed I didn't want a phone with a broken GPS, and in the middle of her claiming they are unaware of any GPS issues I showed how the phone was picking our location as being blocks away.

    [/end rant]
