    You can program Smart Actions to turn off data whenever you turn on wifi. However, the problem that i had with that is that data would not automatically come back on when i turned wifi off, and I'd have to dig through the settings and do it manually. And that was a pain.

    you went to settings>data management>turn off data ?
    If it switches on back to data, then there is some app that has access to changing your network credentials.
    Uninstall or restrict that app.

    I use an app called DataSwitch byTomatoX. I just have this app on my home screen (with a custom icon that I've chosen since the default icon is ugly to me), and whenever I need data I just tap the icon and my data pops up within a couple of seconds.

    I really do not like using an application to automate mobile data such as Smart Actions or Juice Defender. The way I see it is that I don't need mobile data to be turned on just because I turned on the screen.

    Many times I just want to take a picture, send or read a received text message, or play some tunes. Having mobile data turn on and off constantly in my opinion is more of a drain on battery that just keeping it turned off and simply turning it on myself when I need it.

    I notice that if I simply leave 4G off, I get at least two hours more battery life. IMO, if you have the Razr thin and are not near a power source during the day and use data much, 4G is NOT worth the battery hit.

    That said, if I were capped at 2GB per month, I would NEVER have 4G on in the first place.

    Try with "power control" . Long press the screen where you would like to place the widget/select Widgets in the pop up window/then "power control" and select it.

    To turn off mobile networks on android simply follow the following steps

    -> Open up the dail pad

    -> Dial *#*#4636#*#*

    -> Open Testing screen.

    -> Click on Phone Info.

    -> Tap on Menu button.

    -> Click on more.

    -> Tap on Disable data connection

    Now your mobile network will be disabled.

    The HD Widgets app also toggles data on/off. Using it on my RAZR.

    I had my smart actions to turn off data whenever I was connected to WiFi but the phone wont let me send or receive picture messages in that state. Everything else works on WiFi only like email, browser, and other apps that require data. Just MMS wont work. Not sure why that is.

    Because mms uses mobile data (3g/LTE) and doesn't use wifi.

    Is there any app out there that will automatically switch to data on when an MMS is received or trying to send? My last phone did that.. data turned on when needed automatically.

    It's frustrating, because 99% of the time I have data off to save on battery life. When I need to do something that uses data (like send a picture in a text), I have to back out of the text, go to settings, then to data, then turn on data. When I turn it on, I may get 30 MMS all at once that I didn't know were there.

    That is the ONLY thing I don't like about my Razr Maxx.

    Sorry if it's a noob question..

    The guy at the store said that turning off the data plan is not good, as the phone may miss updates and such that are sent out. I assume that this means software updates. However, doesn't shutting 4G off save battery life? I was just turning on data when I need it, such as checking e-mail, searching for a You Tube video, etc., which I may do on Wi-Fi at work or at home, otherwise, I was leaving 4G and Wi-Fi off. Is that bad?

    I usually just swipe left to settings and shut them off there.

    What you were doing is fine. You can receive the updates with WiFI.
    The guy at the store is helping Verizon not you.
    Turning off data saves the amount of data you use. If you are not on unlimited that is a good idea. It also saves battery.
    Turning off WIFi helps save battery, but if your WiFi signal is good, it does not use that much battery.

    I use the app Widgetsoid and built a switcher bar that has toggles for Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, Data, Background Sync, LTE On/Off, Audio Guru, Brightness Profiles and Flashlight. There's all kinds of different functions, apps, shortcuts etc that you can choose from to personalize the switcher bar the way you want it. Then I added it to the notification bar so I just swipe the notification bar down and there's my switcher bar with all of my toggles at the top of the page. I know there are several apps that allow you to do this but I've used Widgetsoid for a long time now and have been pleased with it.
