If your TV has USB, then it has a media player, too.
So you can connect the Desire in disk drive mode to your tv. It's like an USB stick.
The media player on your tv can play the videos your have recorded on your phone.

But the media player at tv has to support the formats of the media files on your Desire.
My Sony tv can this formats:
SONY KDL-32EX703
USB Photo Viewer YES (JPEG/RAW)
USB-Musik-Player YES (mp3)
USB-Video-Player YES (AVC/AVCHD/DivX/MPEG4)

You have to try it with your tv :)

Hi Guys,

For several months I was finding my HTC Desire wanting in terms of playing my media files on my TV. After some research I stumbled upon an app in the Marketplace called Twonky that transforms the Desire into a media server that my DLNA capable TV can connect to TV over my home wireless network. So I can now watch all my videos, photos and also play music files from the Desire on my TV.

Cheers.
