Tweaked v2.1

Yeah, the kernel that came in 1.4 is RHCP's. It's confusing because we were going to bundle the TSK one with TweakStock (which is why it was named that) but RHCP came along and added overclocking, init.d support, and custom animations to it and we've been using that one instead.

flash the kernel again because it seems like you are missing it if you cannot overclock (1000MHZ is stock speed)

i started out w/ tweakstock V1 and flashed the patch for V1.4, i had to flash the kernel seperately to get it.

Thanks KC and shrpshtr325 for the info on the kernel. I actually just went ahead and flashed the RHCP kernel for the helluvit. I figured if that was what 1.4 had anyway, I would not be effecting too much of a change at all. But I thank you guys for answering so promptly!

As promised (and for anyone who cares) I installed a benchmarking tool on my Strat as well as on my wife's. Her's if 100% stock while mine is running TweakStock 1.4 with the RHCP kernel. I wanted to run both and see if there were any differences in scores and whatnot. This is without overclocking because that would be too easy. Just plain old stock versus a Tweakstock flashed device.

    Here are the results:

Stock Stratosphere ------------------------- TweakStock Flashed Stratosphere

    Total Score: 1281 ------------------------- Total Score: 1164
    CPU: 1371 ------------------------- CPU: 1438
    Mem: 1817 -------------------------- Mem:1606
    I/O: 922 -------------------------- I/O:863
    2D: 333 --------------------------- 2D:321
    3d: 1960 -------------------------- 3D: 1591

Now I know that these scores are not accurate (not a professionally administered test anyway) but just done for fun I suppose. I used Quadrant Benchmark for these tests and I also know that I would get different numbers even if I ran the test on the same device over and over again. I mention these things because I am sure I would see this in a reply at some point.

Now, with all of that said, I still found it interesting and intriguing that the overall score on the Tweakstock phone was lower than stock. As a matter of fact, ALL THE SCORES but 1 (CPU) were better on the stock device. Very strange. Now I understand that Tweakstock was not made to be a device optimization tool and it is not meant to totally streamline the device. But I sort of half expected it to at least help the device run a bit smoother I guess.

Your take on all of this?????

mem is probably dependant on how many apps you have installed (or running) so that one is minor

as for the rest of the scores i have no clue.

Yea I agree. Actually many of the scores probably have various things that could affect them. Aside from, I think, the graphics scores. The way I see it both the 2d and 3d scores I would think would be the same or very close. The hardware that operates the graphics are not effected by the ROMS, maybe only the memory that is made available to the hardware for processing. But the actions of that hardware should still produce similar results and thus a similar score.

Im at a loss. But like I said, I am not putting too much credence into these scores. I just thought it was interesting.

TweakStock is deodexed, so I am wondering if that might have something to do with it. We lose efficiency for the sake of customization.

Yeah that'll likely have an effect. There are a number of charge folks that actually use titanium backup to essentially "re-odex" - as it has a noticeable (their words, not mine, as I haven't tested it myself). I'm not sure how "re-odexed" things are at that point, but it's worth mentioning. And like KnightCrusader said, being deodexed makes customizing significantly easier.

And as an aside - nice job on the thorough testing of things Diversebydesign. And like you said - outside of debloating there was little done in the spirit of performance-relevant optimizing - just tweaks :)

    Diversebydesign Well-Known Member

Yea.. that makes sense actually (the re-odex and what KC said about the deodexing). And thanks dwitherell.

Aside from all of the benchmarking hub-bub, the ROM is still working very nicely on my device. I have yet to run into any problems, lag issues, or anything really (aside from that weird email thing from before).

Actually in regards to the email issue from before :), I found that after allowing the phone to go through its little search for accounts that it does on its own as soon as you hit "add", and then it send the aforementioned strange text with a pin yadda-yadda, if you go to "other" and set up your Gmail account that way as opposed to hitting "Gmail" at that point, you can still get Gmail to work in the native email app. Sort of an easy workaround.

Thanks dwitherell for all the work on TweakStock and Knightcrusader for the assist to dwitherell. Great job guys!

Overclocked to 1200 MHz, I was curious what the difference would be.

    Total 1405

    CPU 1724
    Mem 1858
    I/O 1052
    2D 360

All of the scores notwithstanding... I have noticed an immense lag starting to occur in my device.

Of course the first thing that I checked, or I should say monitored was the memory. So far, that has not changed and has remained at "normal" levels. And in addition, I have not installed any new apps, nor do I have any new ones running in the background (hence the normal memory levels).

However, all that being said, the phone has started to lag immensly. Now don't get the wrong idea and think that everything is slowed, it is actually the process of switching from app to app, or home screen to app drawer etc.. that is what has begun to slow down.

I noticed this on my BB as well and also on this device before rooting and flashing this ROM. After a few days of running perfectly, things would start to slow as if the phone was just getting "tired". Sounds goofy I know, but is a good description of the problem.

Now I have been running at 1200 mhz for the last two days and at first the increase in power was only somewhat noticeable. Then I started to experience the lag.

As I mentioned above, I have experienced similar situations with my BB in the past when installing leaked OS's or hybrid OS's. After a few days things would slowly start to lag here and there. The only solution there was to re-wipe and re-install everything. And I have done the exact same thing on my Strat the very first time I noticed it happening. That helped. But, I am hoping that I will not have to do that here again.

    Any ideas? Thoughts? Suggestions?

2 things you could do that may help -
Wipe cache and dalvik in cwm
If redraw are the main issue, there is a line at the end of build.prop that can be un-commented.

Lag always seems to creep in, and in my experience it happens regardless of stock/rooted status. Hope one of these things helps!

Have not had the opportunity to try this yet, but it makes so much sense that I'm just going to assume it will work and go from there. :)

I honestly don't know why i didn't think of some kind of cache somewhere? Too much on my plate at the moment i guess. Either way, much appreciate you chiming in with a solution. The way you stick by your product and your community is exemplary! Thanks D!

I've got a bit of a problem. I actually just noticed this because someone came to me asking if I've gotten some pictures from them. I no longer receive MMS messages from people. I can send them just fine, but I never receive. I used to always get MMS before I flashed tweakstock, and now that I think about it, I haven't gotten one since I flashed it. Any thoughts?
  19. dwitherell

    dwitherell Well-Known Member

Huh, interesting. I haven't noticed this - the wife seems to be able to send/receive mms with no issues. Do others have this issue? Does the person sending it get any indication of an issue? Does this happen on wifi or data (or both)?
  20. GuS807

    GuS807 Active Member

I don't have any problem sending or receiving mms. Not on any version of TweakStock.
  21. bubbalv29

    bubbalv29 Well-Known Member

This happens on both, the person sending the mms get n inducation of me not receiving it, and I get no indication that it was sent unless the inquire about it. I can send just fine, but my phone doesn't acknowledge that I should be receiving one.

EDIT: So I've figured out what the problem was, and I'm disappointed in myself for not figuring this out earlier. When I first installed the ROM, I used Titanium Backup to freeze a bunch of apps I don't use. I use Handcent SMS as my default text messaging app, so I froze the stock SMS/MMS application. When I unfroze it, I had someone send me a test MMS, and it came through immediately. That means I have to leave the stock messaging app unfrozen while I don't use it so I can get MMS messages, and it'll sit there and use resources all the time. =/

Hey guys, I flashed 1.4 w the RHCP kernal last night and had no data connectivity....anyone else seeing this? Did I flash something in the wrong order?
  24. bubbalv29

    bubbalv29 Well-Known Member

You might want to try reflashing both. Or you may want to flash the kernal that comes with 1.4, and then flash rhcp's kernal. My data worked immediately after I flashed, but I flashed the included kernal, then later flashed rhcp's.
  25. dwitherell

    dwitherell Well-Known Member

The included kernel is rhcps kernel. Also, there is nothing in the rom that would affect data - any issues are likely network related.
