"Error: failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?" with my Wildfire, in charge only, hard disc drive, after a factory reset, root on my desktop and debug mode on my phone.
KO with Revolutionary, too.

Does anybody have the unrEVOked 3.21 for Linux please?

Step 2 is impossible.

You can use the link in my signature, scroll down till you find my post, ive made it easier to downgrade your hboot

Dude you have to downgrade your hboot to root your Wildfire or you wont get full root.
It is possible because ive rooted 2 Wildfire's perfectly.

Anyways...
You have to Goldcard your SD card using the GoldCard Tool
Then you can downgrade your hboot

I persist and managed to downgrade (I had to reboot the phone repeatedly).
Then, I failed with unrEVOked, but managed tu use Revolutionary!
So now I'm wiping my data and after I will install DevNull or Oxygen, I don't know.

Edit: I'm now on Oxygen on my Wildfire! \o/
