in my albums does any one else get every single picture thats on the phone show up in the gallery? for example i have my tracks app and it has about a 101 different little icons for the map, as a result these icon annoyingly appear in my gallery, same with laputa book reader, the images used for the book covers in the app also show up in the gallery.

anyone got any ideas how to get round his?

Think the gallery grabs ALL images on the SD card EXCEPT those in "systems" folders. System folders start with a ".". My guess is that the app developers have written their app to store images on the SD but have neglected to ensure that they are stored in a system folder.

    Just my guess.

How to exclude folders from appearing in Gallery:

First connect your Hero to your PC and mount the SD card to the PC. Open Windows Explorer to the SD card directory. Find out which drive it is mapped to (say it is F).

Open a command/DOS prompt on the PC (On Vista, open All Programs/Accessories/Command prompt from the start menu). When the Command Window opens up, type in the following commands (the parts that appear in bold) [& press enter]:

    C:\>F:
    F:\>cd \[name of folder]
    F:\[name of folder]>copy con .nomedia

Press Ctrl+Z on the keyboard. This will create the file named .nomedia at the location.

Unmount the SD card. The relevant folder WILL be excluded (at least it worked for me :))

cheers will give that a go but isnt that basicly the same as creating a new folder with a file manager such as astro?

just tried. not as simple as renaming it but putting a '.' before the file name works. thats the file inside the folder that is.

so thanks for that, although it wasnt exactly what you said it still worked and thanks brykins as it was somethin to do with the '.' before the file name.

Just to clear up something, the dot does not symbolise a system folder it is how directories are made hidden on Linux file systems. So a directory with a dot in front is hidden. This may also hide it from the app that needs the directory depending on how the app was written.

yeah this did happen if i tried to hide the whole folder but if i go into the sub folder and do it to each folder inside, it hides it from the gallery but still works in the app which is exactly what i want. nice to know that though. thanks.

aslo i discovered putting a '.' at the end of a jpeg image also hides the file.
