Help Updating a used unlocked phone

Hi - I purchased a used, unlocked S3 that is a SGH-T999 model. I use T-mobile and the firmware is 4.1.2. I would like to upgrade the firmware but I cannot. When I try it through the phone, it says registration failed. When I try using Kies I receive a message saying "does not support initialising". Any help on how to update the firmware will be greatly appreciated.

I dont know much about US carriers but if no one gives you a fix by tomorrow ill tell you how to update it manually :thumbup:

Hello and welcome to the forums . can I ask did u download all the phone drivers to your laptop/PC .

I didnt download anything. If I plug the phone into my pc it will see it, and I can use Kies to backup files just fine. Not sure if that means a yes or a no, so if I am missing something please let me know and I will download the appropriate files.

Installing kies will have installed the drivers :thumbup:

hmmm what model is your phone is it the tmobile version? if kies doesnt work you should be able to use odin and download the official image(4.3 is current os) for your version of phone from samsung to flash through odin, and disclaimer of sorts if you want/or plan to root dont update to 4.3

Did u change from camera mode to USB by pulling the status bar down

Hey Brainz - Not sure what you mean by that. I looked and didtn see anything.

If you touch the status bar and drag down you will see some options. If the option camera is cheched check the box that has USB

I drug it down and saw neither camera or usb checked

What's checked if nothing shows up your device isn't reading up on your PC/laptop . you may want to check it or do the manual way
