I really want to install 2.2 on my phone but I am hesitant to root to do it.

I don't want to lose all my settings and apps and stuff. i read I can titanium backup but I don't think it will backup EVERYTHING, will it? I guess I want to know if there is a way to upgrade to 2.2 unrooted kind of like if it was pushed to the phone OTA.

If there is not, can I root and upgrade like the OTA? and what order should I do it?

Also, is there a difference between a nandroid backup and titanium backup?

Rooting will not make you lose your data/apps. So get that done, then use Titanium to backup your apps and data. Then get a froyo rom, restore your apps from titanium.

Nandroid backups your whole ROM, Titanium only backups your apps and data.

Awesome thanks for the reply! I know this may have been answered but the order I should do this in:

    1) Unrevoked 3
    2) Unrevoked forever?
    3) Titanium Backup
    4) 2.2 Froyo Rom (file?)
    5) Titanium Backup to restore

Do I need to install the radio update then froyo? or just a froyo rom? and what step do I install a different kernal (hydra) or should I just not do that?

EDIT: would I run a nandroid backup after?

    I would do:

    1) Unrevoked 3
    2) Nandroid
    3) Unrevoked forever?
    4) Titanium Backup
    5) 2.2 Froyo Rom (file?)
    6) Titanium Backup to restore
    7) Nandroid (once you are satisfied with your settings)

I would do the radio after the unrevoked forever.

Does the radio update only work with Froyo? Or will it work on 2.1?

The radio has nothing to do with the OS version. It does however "unlock" features in 2.2.
