    Hi,

I upgraded my samsung galaxy s to froyo 2.2 from 2.1 by going to How to Upgrade Galaxy S to Android 2.2

The upgrade was successful but now my samsung galaxy s is having a lot of problems. Like swype doesnt work, the voicespeak doesnt work. also the internet gets crashed a lot of times after installing flash 10.1

I am thinking if i upgraded via kies it wouldnt happen. But i am not sure so i would like to try. I factory reset my phone but it is still 2.2

How can i downgrade it to 2.1?

Heyguys, well I did try factory reset long before but it didn't work I was about to try the re flashing method after I downloaded all the files but I thought instead of playing with the risk of bricking my phone,i just called the t mobile people and had them replace three phone for me. Now I have a new galaxy s with 2.1 and waiting to update to 2.2 via kies.

I received notification yesterday that a firmware upgrade was available via Kies. I upgraded. Now exchange mail will not work - errors every time. I talked directly to Samsung and they tell me 2.2 will only work on PAYG handsets - not contract. Only way out is to have handset sent back to Manufacturers to re-flash. So, official install or not, problems occur

Ok, how have you guys been doing a factory reset? there are 2 ways to do it, the first 1 is like this, settings>privacy>factory reset, this method is the one most people go for but it doesn't clear out anything left behind after a firmware update.

The best method is through recovery mode, power phone off and leave for a few mins to make sure phone is fully powered down.
Now hold down the the following keys volume up, home and power, when you see the boot screen release the power key but keep the other 2 keys pressed until you see a screen with coloured text, now release the volume up and home keys.
At the top of the screen you should have some blue text, look for data wipe/factory reset or something similar, us the volume up and down to select date wipe/factory reset, use the home key to ok the selection.

BERFORE YOU DO THE ABOVE BACK UP ALL YOUR IMPORTANT STUFF LIKE APPS, CONTACTS, MUSIC, PHOTOS ECT AS DOING THIS WILL WIPE YOUR PHONE.

There's no need to be scared. The best way to update your firmware is the official way through kies, if you can, make sure you have the very latest version of kies, go here for it Software & Manuals - Support - Samsung Mobile UK

Using the guides I posted is only if you can't update with kies but having said that there are a lot of people who prefer to use odin to flash new firmware, if you go down this route make sure you read the guide's properly before you proceed with it.

As with anything like this there is always the risk of something going wrong, but if you follow the guide you should be ok.

is there a way to switch back to 2.1, i know it can be done but cant find the firmware for that.

or would the kies registry hack work?

It all depends on whether your phone is unbranded or you got it from a network provider.

If it is unbranded then you should be able to update through kies, just make sure you have the latest version.(are you able to connect your phone to kies ok?)

If your phone came from one of the networks then you will have to wait until they release there versions of Froyo, some networks have started to roll out there updates.

A factory reset will not help you to get the update.

I believe you can go back to 2.1 but you will have to do it through odin and you will have to get the files you need from samfirmwares.com

I see you have Froyo already, how did you get it? through kies or did you flash it with odin?

Before you go any further do this: open the phone dialer and input this
*#1234#, this will bring up a screen called version, on this screen write down everything and post it here

nope, that ways my phone is unbranded..

yes i had flashed a 2.2 build via odin, regretting it now.

    Code (Text):
    1. i9000xxjp2
    2. csc i9000xajp2
    3. build 2010.07
i wish to flash 2.1 too, samfirmware.com seems to have a link broken, doesnt get me to the firmware page.

Before you update you will need to remove any lag fix you have installed and also un-root your phone.

If you are using a different launcher to samsung touchwiz, like ADW, Launcher Pro or any others you will need to remove it and revert back to samsung touchwiz, this is because kies will not work with other launchers.

The reason you can't get to the firmwares on samfirmwares is because you have to register on there site.

So your already on JP2, which is a version of Froyo. The lates version is JPO, if you have a unbranded phone and update via kies this is what you will get.
If you have a branded phone you will get a variation on JPO which relates to the network you got your phone from.

My phone is unbranded and sim unlocked, it has the sales code XEU which is for the UK and Europe, this means I get the JPO update.

If you want to check the sales code of your phone here is what you need to do.

    For those on 2.1 eclair.
If you have the clock set to the 12hr format change it to the 24 hr format first, you can change it back later.

Go to phone and bring up the dial pad and enter the following:
*#272*HHmm# HHmm=24hr time format, so if the time is 1.15pm, what you would enter would be *#272*1315# this will bring up the preconfig screen, sales code will be in the white box, ideally it should be XEU There may be a list of other sales codes below, which you can use.

    For those on 2.2 Froyo.
you don't need to change the clock, as the procedure is slightly different for Froyo
First you need to find the IMEI number for your phone>go to phone and bring up the dial pad and enter the following *#06# this will bring up a box with the IMEI number, write it down.

Next>go to phone and bring up the dial pad again and enter the following> *#272*IMEI Number# this will bring up the preconfig screen, in the white box is your sales code, ideally it will be XEU which is for the UK and Europe, underneath there may be a list of other sales codes you could choose from

For the phone to have a list of different sales codes it would need to have the multiCSC file, some phone's do and some don't.

The whole point of this is to try and get your phones to update to the latest official samsung firmware which is JPO via kies.

Here is a guide I have borrowed from sean2476 over at samsung galaxy forums.

The process is really easy and I used my old version of kies to upgrade to JPO!

First of all you need to go into regedit and do some minor alterations to the registry just like when you first updated to JM1.

Do not update Kies! If you do then I think this tweak won’t work!

The Kies version I used was 1.5.0.10024_74 but I fooled it into thinking it was the latest version 

    Step by step guide

    1. Back up everything you wish to keep, including Apps, phone numbers, Text messages etc because were going to wipe your phone clean before we start!
    2. Go to Settings – Privacy – FACTORY DATA RESET and click. Follow the prompts and then let it wipe your phone.
    3. Now you have a bare naked phone again and can proceed onto the next step.
    4. Open up Kies and leave running
    5. Connect phone
    6. Open Regedit by clicking on Start – Run – then type in regedit and press enter
    7. Scroll down to Kies and look for “Localver” [see pic]
    8. Change your Localver code to 1.5.3.10103.100
    9. Now go to your Device DB folder and change your settings to these:
    "SoftwareRevision"="I9000XXJF3/I9000OXAJF3/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"
    "ProductCode"="GT-I9000HKDXEU"
    "HIDSWVER"="I9000XXJF3/I9000OXAJF3/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"
"DEVCONINFO"="" Delete the writing in this box and leave blank.
    10. Now go back into Kies and click “Update firmware”

This will now allow everyone who has JPA on their handset with the product code XEE to be replaced with JPO and the product code XEU which is for the UK. Once you have successfully updated then allow the phone to boot up. Once booted up you will now need to go back into your settings and change your product code to XEU. To do this open your keypad and type in *#272*YOUR IMEI# and now you will be back to having a lovely wee choice of product codes to enter. Choose XEU and install. The phone will reboot and you will now officially be on JPO with the correct product code XEU!

I hope this will be mega use to all you folks who want the unbloated version of Froyo 2.2 JPO!

Please note that by doing any update on your phone could cause it to brick itself. The guide I have written worked perfect for me however I can’t be held responsible if your phone bricks itself. To be safe always try the 3 button recovery method first before you update and also doing a factory reset first usually ensures a smooth installation of new firmware.

It sounds as if your good to go.

Before you start make sure your phone connects via kies properly, if when you connect via kies it just hangs on the connecting the device, unplug your phone and go to the top left where it says kies and click, in the drop down box select reinstall drivers, wait for it to finish reinstalling the drivers and then reconnect your phone.

Once your phone and kies are working together click the upgrade button and follow the instructions.

What firmware is the phone on at the moment? to find out do this *#1234#, you will have PDA, PHONE, CSC and Build Info, write it all down and let me know.

PM me if you have any problems.

    This is pure bullshit man.

Halfway through Q1 and still no goddamn updates over air from Hi3G or any other european provider I must ask what the hell is going on really? Do they REALLY expect average users to go through all this BS just to get a few extra set of whistles... jesus.

To me this is just a huge failure on both Google and Samsungs part.. mostly though, I think Samsung really failed on this one since it's their crappy POS software i'm basically referred to by my service provider. And all I'm really interested in is the Flash 10 support and a few fixes to performance since for some goddamn reason my device will lock up on random at times when I multitask between apps. But i'm dead-dissapoint over the current situation.

I would like for someone to just give me a REALLY REALLY straightforward answer here, no offense to those I know may like to tinker with their toys and have a field day doing these kind of technical mumbo jumbo, but I'm not one to spend a minute more than necessary - JUST TO GET MY DEVICE TO WORK AS IT SHOULD.

So my question is: Can I upgrade My phone through Kies, even though it's locked to the Hi3G network? I'm currently on v2.1 (sales code: NEE) and as far as I can tell, there is no specific branding on the device.

Also: what are the chances I will need to re-install all my apps? I have about 50 custom apps -most which I paid for- and would hate to need d/l and install them all over again.

I sincerely hope that someone out there can shed some light onto the subject, since its already painfully obvious that a normal user won't ever be able to handle all the variables required to upgrade a device "manually" . No matter how easy the steps may appear to be.

    Thanks in advance
