Help Upgrading phone without loosing applications

I am on the official FROYO 2.2.1 and it is working great. If I upgrade it in the coming weeks to Gingerbread, will I lose all installed applications?

I had backed most of them to phone SD card, but there are many still in the phone memory, and I am affraid that I can not install them back.
Any idea's.

If you are doing it through ODIN I think you will lose all the applications that are installed on the phone. The best way to backup your apps, is to root the phone and install Titanium Backup https://market.android.com/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup backup all your apps and data and then restore them when you upgrade.

My phone is not rooted, and I am trying to keep it that way.
I was talking about the official upcoming Gingerbread update which is due , hopefully, in the coming weeks. Am I going to loose applications with the official upgrade.
