rather than starting a new thread you should do a search first as this question has been answered many times already...Here is what your looking for though... PdaNet -- Use your Android as a USB Modem

You have to download PDAnet on your computer then follow instructions. Its very simple. Remember you have to download it via your computer first.

Not sure about other mobile devices with Android. But on HTC hero you can do tethering without any third party application. In case you got Hero, go to setting, wireless controls, scroll down to bottom, last option says mobile network sharing. while connecting via USB check that option and you are connected, done.
