Useless since ICSSupport

Hi everyone, long time lurker, first time poster. Hope you can help. Don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but since the ICS upgrade this once nice tablet has turned to junk. Apps stop responding, browser window randomly closes (especially when I try to type), serious lag and random screen freezes. I sometimes have to pull the battery to get the screen to start responding again, will not power off. I broke down and did a factory reset and even with no apps installed I experience the same issues. The ICS upgrade on my Razr Maxx went flawlessly but it's trashed my Thrive. Any suggestions short of having to root?

Just root it, man. Unless you want to spend time with phone support and have them troubleshoot it for you, which is usually more tedious than just rooting.

Only problem is he upgraded to ICS and there is no root available if he already took the OTA update to ICS. You can try and go to Toshiba Thrive forums and see if you can go back to HC. There is a dev who might be able to help but I cannot promise anything.

Update on my issues. Just got off the phone with Toshiba support. Basically told not their problem but for $120 they can give me an estimate to repair. So through no fault of my own the tablet is trashed. Thanks Toshiba.

Wanted to post an update on my situation. Got in touch with Dalepl, the man is amazing. He rolled me back to HC. I then rooted and installed the stock ics. For whatever reason, the ics was still a little glitchy. I took a chance and flashed CM10. WOW, the Thrive has come to life. Absolutely no issues that I had with ics. if you're considering going to JB, go for it. I can say I love my Thrive again!

Yep. Pios baked black bean is also great. My Thrive is like a new tablet!

I'm considering JB for Toshiko as well - I installed OTA ICS right out of the box, and just this month was able to use the tools dalepl has made available* and install his Stock Rooted ICS ROM - but while performance has improved, I still get occasional UI freezes and browser crashes.

*that's right, the "Universal Easy Flash Tool" even works for OTA ICS now, and you don't need dalepl's direct help to fix a tablet with this horribly broken update any more!

Just know that with Pio's JB you will loose some hardware functions like USB and speaker on the docking station unless there's been an update on that that I missed. (Which is entirely possible)

I'm considering a CyanogenMod ROM since I've got Barnabas (my Nook Tablet) running CM10.1, and just about everything except Candy Crush Saga is running fine (I think that game just hates Android).

I've been at the Thriveforums for about a month now and doing some reading - there's a lot of content to wade through over there.
...actually I think I've seen you there; your name is familiar.

It's a great forum and the Thrive devs and forum mods are very helpful. I am under the username "JiveTurkee" over there. :D

I remember seeing you too; you put a "like" on one of my posts. :)

Only on the docking station? I haven't used my docking station yet, and don't plan to in the forseeable future, so I probably wouldn't miss that functionality. But if it breaks the USB port on the tablet, that's a non-starter.

As I said, I haven't really kept up with Pio's thread since I read that particular issue. It was a non-Starter for me as well which is why I've stayed with DalePL's ICS which does everything I need with no problems and I use both the Standard Dock as my nightstand music and alarm clock stand and the HDMI Dock for watching videos and playing games on my 32" TV.

Just had to second that dalepl is amazing.

CM10 appears to have a habit of shrinking the internal storage - my 16GiB Thrive only has about 10GiB usable under Kuroikaze Shinka or Baked Black Bean, and my 8GiB Nook has been busted down to six gigs.
I'm told this is a fault of CM10, not of the developers of any particular ROM, and since I've seen it across three iterations of CM10 and across two different devices, I believe it.

Hello all. I am a 30 year Proff firefighter who thanks to his kids, just got rid of his 2 cups and string as well as my flat stone and chisel since my Kids bought a smartphone and a thrive. They dont know much about tweaking and rooting and I know I dont. A ff at my station uses his phone to deliver 4g to his tablet. I know it has to be rooted I guess. I have a sprint galaxy s3 stock. What are the advantages/disadvantages to this rooting? I am not buying docking staions or anything like that. I bought tablet talk and an ip camera program through play store its all working fine. What will I lose in rooting a tablet just to get internet sharing with this new phone? I read here you lose speakers

Just rooting a phone or tablet shouldn't affect the speakers at all. What you probably read was a thread about a new ROM operating system that was flashed to a device. Not all ROM's are alike and if they're not properly done, you can loose hardware activity. Make sure you only flash ROM's that were made for your particular device and make sure you read all developer notes about what they have working and what they don't have working before flashing their ROM. This will save you many headaches. :smokingsomb:

Also, you don't need to root your tablet if you are using your phone as a hotspot.

PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP ME! My Thrive wont scan for a wireless network. Once I turn it off and turn it back on it just sits there with "turning WiFi on" mocking me. If I put in a network it says out of range when Im sitting right next to the router. I thought hey must be the card so I put a new one in same prob. I don't have a clue what or where to go from here.

    Model # AT100 Droid 4.0.4 Please somebody help a nube out! =/

I want to love my Thrive again, too! The problem (& it's a pretty big one) is that, other than recognizing all to well the actual problems from others' posts, I have very little clue how to decipher the "fix" instructions. JB? Baked Black Bean? Docking stations? I know ICS = "Ice Cream Sandwich," & it has something to do w/ my tablet. Beyond that, unless it's a cousin to the Nutty Butty &/or Scooter Crunch, I'm utterly lost.

If anybody knows of any "Step 1: Click here...Step 2: Type this.... Step 3: Click there," hand-holding, instruction sites for common Thrive tablet problems (like those listed above, & them some), please let me know. Thanks!
