Hi, I'm looking to get t-mobile service. Does it make much of a difference if I buy an at&t s4 phone and unlock it, vs. using a t-mobile s4?

I unlocked one at&t phone and it can make calls, but not use data on t-mobile. what gives?
Can I use the hot spot feature on the at&t phone?
Can I put a t-mobile ROM on the at&t phone?

The difference between them often relates to which radio frequencies they support for data and which apn you use. Often in the past, AT&T phones didn't contain the compatibility to use T-Mobile's HSPA+ network because of frequency incompatibility. Most AT&T phones these days will work with T-Mobile LTE, but HSPA is still hit or miss. If you want to fully use T-Mobile's network, your best option is to buy the T-Mobile variant or the Google Edition.
