[Verizon] How to go directly from 4.1 rom to 4.1.1 stock

I have a 4.1 ROM running on my Verizon Gnex, but the reason I bought the Gnex was to get the stock update immediately (should've gone with ANYTHING other than VZW). I've read somewhere that there's a file that the system update checks to see if you're udpated, and if you're not it'll push the OTA update to you. When the 4.1.1 (or even 4.1) update starts rolling out to Verizon Gnexs, I want to edit that file so I can get the stock update and not worry about ROMs anymore. Where is the file located?

But is that even possible to go directly from a custom ROM to stock, or will that screw things up? If it's not possible, I'll just flash back to my stock 4.0.4 recovery, and get the 4.1 update. I'm assuming, however, that going straight from my 4.1 rom to stock 4.1 would preserve settings and configurations, but is that a good assumption? Either way, I'd like to know what that file is just for curiosity's sake. Thanks in advance

Hey Auslegung! I moved this to the GNex VZW All Things Root section. Thanks for understanding. :)

As far as reverting to stock, you can use WUG's toolkit to revert to flash back a factory image and return to stock if you desire to take the OTA when Verizon rolls it out.

Thanks for moving the thread, and sorry about that.

I have no problem getting back to stock, my primary question is, what is that file, and secondary is, would it work to go straight from custom ROM to getting an ota update?

If rooted and you have a custom recovery, you can't receive an OTA, so in simple terms, no, you can't go straight from a ROM to the OTA (when it comes out). When they start pushing the OTA, you'll have to flash back to the original, unrooted state of your GNex (which will be ICS 4.02 I believe) and wait for the OTA to hit your device.

Thanks for the reply, but what is that file I keep asking about? It's my understanding that custom ROMs do something to that file to prevent the ota updates. That may not be right, but either way I'd like to know what that file is.

I know there's somebody here who knows more about this than me, but it sounds like your goal is to modify the file you're talking about in order to receive an OTA directly from whatever ROM you're on. I'm not sure where/what this file, and if it is possible to modify it, but I am 98% sure that there is no way to receive an OTA while you have a custom bootloader (like ClockworkMOD). In order to flash ROMs, you need a custom bootloader, so therefore having a ROM inherently means no OTA updates. Sorry I can't be more specific re: the file you're asking about. Hopefully somebody will jump in with more clarification.

Correct, there's no way to automagically receive the OTA while on a custom rom. That feature is defeated. OTA's only work with the stock rom, b/c it's just patches certain files in your rom, and if it's not stock, it quickly fails.

When it's available, you can flash it like any other custom rom. Whether you choose to be rooted or not, that's your choice. When it's out, you'll see lots of people here all over it. :D

If you want to receive the OTA the normal way, all you can do is go back to stock and wait.... a LOT.
