Root [Verizon] I need a link for rooting

Hi, i'm buying my friends galaxy s4. ( he's with rogers) before i get it from him i would like to root it so i can get ride of rogers apps and so on... and so i can unlock it, so i can use any carrier, because at the moment im with MTS and in a year my contract is up and im going to another carrier.

i have looked and read a bit but there is so many different tutorials can you give me a link to a tutorial so i can root it then to unlock it
