Verizon Support On This PhoneGeneral

So I have yet to pick this thing up as most of ya know, but I have been watching this forum and the SGS3 forum. Is anybody else concerned this phone is going to fall by the wayside kind of like the Thunderbolt did? The SGS3 forum is lit-up on a daily basis, this one is at about a crawl in comparison. There are only a handful of reviews of this phone on Verizon's website. They are all good reviews just like 99% of the posts on this forum. I am just getting concerned that this phone isn't selling well enough for Verizon to pay much attention to it when it comes to updates. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but is anybody else concerned they may own a phone that will see little if any support?

Define support. To me support means if it's broke you can take it to the store and they'll repair/replace it.

Support as in Verizon will work with HTC to get fixes out and Android OS updates out.. etc... Not broke and won't repair it. It just doesn't seem like this phone is generating much buzz. Isn't that why the Thunderbolt never took off?

By the way, did you ever hear back from that guy on CL by you? I never did...

I never heard back from the guy. There was another one that listed a few days ago, but they wanted $450 for it so I didn't think you'd be interested in it at that price. I certainly wasn't.

I always tell people to buy devices for what they can do now. Expecting a device to grow and change and somehow become the perfect device is like expecting that from your mate IMO. You don't marry someone with the idea that they will change in the future and become what you want them to be. You marry them for what they are now. Devices are no different except for not having the pesky "til death do us part" thing going on.

No, not for $450, I'll just go to Verizon and buy it for $499... I haven't seen any here on CL yet...

That is a very funny analogy..!!:D...

I will agree with you that it seems odd that most of the big android blogs have no reviews on this phone. So far the only ones are Android Police & AndroidandMe. Nothing from Phandroid, DroidLife, or Android Central. And this is at 12 days after launch. Some of the general tech blogs have reviews up (The Verge, Engadget, Wired, CNet, PC Mag, Phonedog, & Gottabemobile), but nothing from BGR or TechnoBuffalo. Hell, Time got one out today. But it makes me wonder what's going on with the big three android blogs.

Besides that, some of the reviewers have no idea about the phone. When BGR announced the launch date, the said it had ImageSense. One I read yesterday, (don't remember the name) said the phone had an Amoled screen with pentile! Some of these places are just phoning in their reviews. If you do a search you'll see plenty of reviews out (say like 25) but most are simply reprinting 5 original ones. It seems like they're all starting to get lazy.

Yeah, unfortunately everything is overshadowed by the SGS3 these days.

Well I just purchased a rooted Org Inc off Ebay. I am going back to that phone. It gets better reception then this Inc2 and I just can NOT make up my mind on the Inc 4G...:( I really would like to get it, but I am just on the fence to much to spend the money and regret it. The little bit I do with the Internet on my phone just makes me wonder if all the money for 4G is worth it for me...

My opinion on this is compare it to the original Incredible. Look at that forum and look how much attention it got. IT did nothing as far as Verizon and HTC getting updates out quick for it.

I expect the same for this phone and for the S3G Verizon will take it's sweet ass time and if your lucky you will get an update. If you don't like it root the phone and do it yourself.

Verizon may or may not give regular updates. Time will only tell. Dev support over at XDA though is going strong. Within the first week of release this phone got permanent root and it's first custom ROM.

I never mentioned anything about quick. The Org Inc got a Froyo update a GB update and a few other OTA's while I had that phone. I thought it was supported decently.

I did the root thing with the Inc, not everybody wants or is comfortable doing that. I would guess the vast majority of users don't even know what rooting is or even if they did would want to try it. I am of the stance that you should not have to root a phone to get basic functionality and bugs fixed... JMO! Especially within the first year of owning the phone. You root it and something happens, you can't even take it to Verizon to get it replaced...

    Just a few thoughts

Comparing Inc4g and Sgs3 forums is comparing a single carrier exclusive phone to a multi carrier phone. Apples to oranges.

Would people stop suggesting verizon won't support devices. Even the Eris got multiple updates even though most users had to upgrade because the phone was problematic.

    Verizon is slower with updates.

Forums not reviewing phones has zero to do with Verizon or the devise.

With all this said, I don't own this device and I doubt I will. While I love HTC, it doesn't seem like it is as gold as I expected.

dev support is what i'm worried about... and fyi root does not work anymore. htcdev removed the unlock (assumption is pressure from verizon) from it's website. i also don't think s-off was ever a possibility yet. there are some basic mods already released (remove the new 3 dot menu, fix the apple lawsuit menu thingy) - i hope they continue!

From what they are saying on XDA, when you go to HTCDEV, select "All other supported devices" and this works for the Inc4G. You are right that there is no S-Off right now but this is not needed for the UKB ROM out.

I tried the Inc 4G for a couple of weeks and went back to my OG Inc running CM9 (ICS). I missed (nearly) pure Android, and decent battery life. I don't need 4G badly enough yet to necessitate an upgrade.

I'm hoping for something really good with the next Nexus device(s).
