5GB is the tethering limit. I forget how much it is after, but it isn't cheap.

I live on my boat, and for the past year have been tethering on my omnia using wifi router and every month have gone over 5GB. my plan is unlimited data via phone, I've never once had a problem with it, as i don't use the tether username and password.

    Last months bill

    Usage Type My Usage Allowance
    Kilobytes 15,120,796.05KB Unlimited

This is on most of my bills, never had a problem, never had an over charge...

If you are tethering via VZW mehtod then yes its limited to 5GB as far as i know, but Via your phone, its spose to be a Unlimited plan as far as i know... I could be wrong.

As long as VZW doesn't know you're tethering, you can tether all you want ;)

Im hoping this will continue on my android if i use same type of method it get online, as its my only internet connection out here lol.

There's no cap for data from your handset. 5gb cap for tethering. Your personal phone can be flagged for extreme high usage though and in the terms and conditions they can cut off your phone for that reason. Very rare, though I have seen it happen. But if your just barely using over 2gb it doesnt sound like your the kind of user who would be flagged.

Just be careful, I've heard of people (with root, of course) tethering their phones and playing Xbox Live or downloading torrents, etc, and racking up a huge amount of data use. Verizon didn't like that and punished them (I think it was just overage charges or something, I forget.)

Heard all this from my friend who is a Moto Droid user and avid developer. Got me into Android.

Hey man, why not get an aircard or netbook? Cuz when you tether; you can't use your phone to make/ receive calls or messages....

I tether every now and then, but I do use Slacker radio pretty consistently. I've pulled well over 5GB strictly using Slacker. Never had a problem from Verizon.

I have been tethering my devices for the past few years... The 5gb cap only applies when you actually pay VZW for the teathering service.

why would i want to pay more for internet that i can get from tethering and messages and calls come through fine... the reason i have no internet at home is bc we cant afford it yet... and i would never get a netbook for myself since i love my 3 year old laptop

You have unlimited data on your phone. However, you're not supposed to be tethering without signing up for Verizon's tether plan, which is limited to 5GB.

If they ever call you and ask what you've been doing on the phone as far as data, just tell them you get online a lot and you use pandora. Don't tell them you are tethering with a 3rd party app.

All I know for sure is I've used my phone pretty much 24/7 in Android Market, the internet, over 40 hours of pandora (I had to upgrade to ONE), tethering, etc. and have only used about a GB of data. Not too bad.

I've never been charged for going over 5GB. I went way over 5GB three months in a row with my last phone and they sent me a letter warning me that my usage was consistent with unauthorized use and was 9 times greater than the average user. They said my plan would be terminated in 30 days.

It actually didn't work out too bad for me though. I was using my phone with a tether safe hack on my laptop and was downloading torrents and streaming music every night. They knew I was tethering but couldn't prove it. They said my ETF would be waived so I bought a used phone on eBay and ported my number to AT&T, realized they sucked worse than Sprint, then ported my number back to VZW a month later. After all that I ended up activating the same phone with them. Never lost my number and because I came back with my own equipment they put me on a month to month basis so I had no contract though that didn

Usint PDA net. Works nice. I did over 2 GB in one night with netflix movies. Guess I should watch myself, but I am kind of in the middle of, lets just call it a status change and I am staying a few months in a place that has no internet access. This is my only life line out of here, and to work after hours. Normal usage seems ok on this, but apparently watching movies generates a lot of traffic. Who would have thought. ;-)
