Two reasons HD screen and new android form factor.
I just picked it up for my wife. It's a nice phone. I'd get it if it was in White, but it's not so I'm keeping my vivid.

I currently own the HTC vivid and just got done putting the nitro through its paces at an at&t store and can confidently say that the nitro is absolutely terrible. The whole time I was using it it was constantly stuttering and sticking. The design is poorly thought out and the phone looks extremely cheap. The stock browser has the settings integrated into a menu bar on the bottom of the browser which makes ot impossible to fullscreen the browser when in portrait or landscape mode. I checked everything and could not figure out how to do it. The battery wheat from green to less than 2% in about 35 minutes. If you have a vivid don't even bother going out of your way to look at this phone. Lg really has some work to do to run with the big boys. Having said all this I still look forward to what others have to say. Guys it was really bad.

I just went and played with the Nitro, Vivid and Skyrocket at my local AT&T store and had a very opposite impression. The screen was stunning to look at, even next to the skyrocket, there was almost no lag going from menu screen to other screens and the sample videos looked gorgeous. My only qualm with the phone was the size. It's huge! The user experience, at least for me and this particular phone, was a wash between the Nitro, Vivid and Skyrocket...

Were you able to figure out how to fullscreen the browser?

When I opened the browser, it opened straight to the full screen mode.

I may need to go try a different phone. The one I tried was definitely having issues.

This was exactly like my experience. Even after cleaning up the home screens it was still exhibiting lag. I'm going to try one more at a different store.

I had a Vivid and traded it in on the Nitro this morning. I experienced none of the problems you seemed to have. I did have some slowness in the browser that ended up being the attwifi connection in the store. Once I disconnected that it was fine. Also, if your store was like mine they had just put the phone out and it didn't even start charging yet. I have found this phone to have the cleanest text of any phone I ever used. The display is gorgeous and surpasses the gHD on the Vivid. Its thin and light and I commend LG for putting so much power in such a small package. They managed to make it Samsung light without the cheap feel.

As for your opinion on the browser and the bar isn't the beauty of Android that we have dozens of browsers to choose from? I happen to like the LG lock screen and some enhancements they have made to the system. There are little touchs every where that make it unique, some good some bad. Don't we have dozens of launchers and customizations to make it your own.
Its a good time to be on AT&T. In the last month they have given us three powerful phones and its my opinion you can't go wrong with any of them.

I had a Captivate for a year and a half. Samsung's update release schedule was horrible. Unless you are carrying a Google phone expect to get lied to on updates.

To get the LG Nitro......Or to wait for something else....

Going to head over to the AT&T store to play with the LG Nitro in a few hours. I'll run a few benchmarks if possible and give my first impressions when I get back.

Also, If I do decide to buy the phone. Can I order from AT&T.com and still keep my unlimited data? I know it's like $100 cheaper from the website, thanks.

some of us have had to put up a fight to keep our unlimited data...you may have to ask for a supervisor.

as for price, ask in store for them to match the online price (have picture proof just in case) In some cases people had to pay full price and get a $100 bill credit (they called in to att afterward)

In others simply asking for a s supervisor and or having them call corporate at point of sale was enough to get the discount immediately

    Thanks Mr. Ed :)

The LG Nitro that was on display was TERRIBLY slow. I'm going to take a guess and say that the display model is bugged or something, because it was bad. Really bad.

The display was gorgeous, but that was all.

I was going to grab the Skyrocket in white, and just try to ignore the screen issues, but I was being rushed out of the store

PS: No it wasn't by the employees :p

Well, I WAS super excited for this phone, but not at $249 and not with the seeming issues the device is having. If it drops to $149 where I can get it, I might reconsider as I think this phone will be quite nice with ICS, but it had better happen soon as there are several phones in the pipe with 720p displays. Otherwise, my trusty old IPhone 3GS will soldier along until an android phone that knocks my socks off comes out, or possibly that rumored quad core, 720p iPhone. That would be a shame though as I really want to try/like Android...

I bet if the Galaxy Nexus was on Gingerbread, it would be just as laggy.

    1.2GHz OMAP (Nexus) vs 1.5GHz S3 (Nitro)

Not really a big difference there. Hell, in most cases the Nitro is faster.

What do you guys think? Is Gingerbread just too outdated and not optimized enough to handle such a large resolution like 1280x720?

The phone is fine. I like it and think it's worth the $$ and as I've said before I just came to ATT I have the Vivid and the wife has the Nitro.

What we had before this was Evo 4g and Epic 4g on Sprint.

From what I've seen in reviews, it looks smooth, but like I said previously, the display model was absolutely terrible.

Really changed my decision.....I'll check out another AT&T store tomorrow.

Picked this up yesterday, before the display model was put up. Bought the nitro on gut instincts. No regrets whatsoever. Everyone complaining about the lag needs to chill and realize that the processor has to power almost two times the pixels as a normal phone. The lag is negligable with such a beautiful screen. The screen seems alittle resistive requiring a slight amount of pressure. You will notice this while typing; not major at all though. I do wish the UI was a bit more high end. Sorta looks cheesy. Hopefully ICS will take care of this (and Roms). Battery life is average; gets through the day with moderate use. Pretty good life considering the screen.

Feel free to ask me questions; I want to get the word out about this awsoeme yet "less popular" phone.

I noticed no lag at all on the test model I played with. It really is a nice phone

Seems after rooting and a hard reset this phone flies. Not sure why. Guy on XDA reported the same.
