Hi all,

We're running a quick survey among our users (in Viber-dedicated threads only).

We'd like to hear your opinion: What is Viber missing the most? If you could choose the most important feature that you'd like to see in our next big version - Viber 2.1 - that's coming up soon, what would it be?

Let your voice be heard :)

I suppose video calling would be a popular request, though, personally I really never make video calls even when our local network charges the same rate for voice on video calls. Group chat would be another.

What I would like most personally (not sure it is possible) is a setting to select lower voice quality so that the service works fine even with poor connections.

Your second suggestion is an issue we're been working on a lot in the past few months (especially in regards to 3G networks). We will present a solution for that soon :)

I installed Viber on my Droid X & it worked fine. However, when I exit the app it comes back on whenever I power up the phone in the morning. Is there a way to keep it off until I want it to be active?

Is there a tablet version of viber? I was able to install viber in my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 but I could not get pass the part where I register my phone number. After entering my number it says "Waiting for SMS..." and then an "Error" pops up.

@brianbro -
After exiting Viber, it shouldn't turn itself back on. However, after reboot of phone, Viber auto-starts (in order to make sure it's available for calls/texts, as you would expect of a communications app). Remember two things:
1. you can simply turn it off after your phone starts.
2. to be frank, Viber consumes very little battery, and negligible amounts of KB. We respect, of course, your will to close it (and this is why we added the "exit" button), but know that it affects your phone in a slight way.

@gsmack -
Viber is not yet officially compatible with Tablets (with HC). We're working on it these very days, and it will hopefully be ready soon. I'll keep you posted of course.

Thanks to an iPhone user, I've now discovered Viber. I was very surprised as to how many of my friends were already connected and yet none of them ever mentioned it.

Anyway, does anyone have any idea if there is any possibility to have the Viber dialer replace the standard (or HTC) dialer ? I assume the Viber dialer does everything that the standard dialer does - yes ?

Edit: After a reboot of the phone, the next time I used the dialer, it asked me if I wanted to set Viber as my default dialer. Brilliant work Viber

Trying Viber also. I tried first call to my sister about 1500 miles away but the delay was unbearable in terms of carrying on a conversation. Both kept taking over the top of each other. I know there are many factors but is there any ongoing improvement to response times. My modem, and other setup already setup with QoS priority etc. Is there equivalent in phone networks?

I'm not so sure I understood what you asked, but what I can tell you is that we (Viber) are working on these days is a better adaptation of Viber to slow networks. Usuaully WiFi<-->WiFi calls through Viber should be just fine, while we will improve Viber's handling of calls on 3G.

Do you have any plans to indicate when a user is actually online ? Someone may have installed the app at one stage and then removed but may still be indicated as being a Viber user or, like my sons' phone, being PAYG, only uses wi-fi for data so if not in wi-fi coverage, wouldn't be connected.

@championc - you do have an indirect way of seeing who's online and who's not.

When you make a Viber call, if it says "Ringing..", it means the other side's phone is literally ringing, meaning they're online. If it only says "Calling..", it probably means they're offline.

Same for messaging - if you send a text and you see the "✔" sign, it means the message has been received at the other side's phone (he's online). If you only see the arrow sign, it means it's been sent from you, but pending the other side to come online (they're offline at the moment).

Think of Viber as a "substitute" to your real phone. When you call/text someone, you're not sure if they are currently available or not. Right? ;)

Question for Viber;

I've got a Optimus V (Virgin Mobile and Android 2.2.1) and downloaded the Viber app. but never receive the SMS activation code. I have tried the alternative activation method and my phone did ring but there was total silence on the other end (tried this twice). No codes, no voice, nothing.

I am now "timed-out" and have to wait 24hrs. to try again.

Any tip, tricks, or ideas?

Thanks ..... Roger :^)

@crystalship1 - We are aware that momentarily there are some issues with the callback system in some parts of the worls. We are working on resolving this. Please follow the following possible resolutions;
* Try again within the next *24 hours.
* If you tried connecting via 3G, try WiFi.
* Check our blocked countries and regions list at Viber Support and Knowledge Base
* Make make sure that you entered a valid number to where the SMS or phone call can be sent.
Unfortunately, we're aware that in certain cases the access code delivery is unavailable to certain users. Please contact your phone carrier regarding the ability to receive international SMS/calls.

Thanks for your patience, and sorry for the inconvenience:/

Nice update. Exit button now working perfectly. Use it only for WiFi hence the importance of the Exit button.

My son installed the update on his Sony Xperia X8 and discovered he wasn't getting text messages anymore. I sent him a text and no sign. He then removed Viber and suddenly 4 messages arrived.

Does this make sense that it can happen ??

Viber text messages can only arrive once Viber itself is installed. Please try removing Viber on both sides, reinstalling, and testing again.

What do you mean "you got a message that T-mobile won't allow the calls" ?
What is the exact phrasing of the message? Where did it appear?

What country are you located in?

Hi!

I live in Illinois in the USA.

"Viber service is currently unavailable or being blocked."

Strong 3g service.

Also, are the following free calls?

1. 3g to wifi.

2. wifi to 3g.

Thanks!

@KegHead -

The "Viber is currently unavailable" error message is a known issue that some of our users are experiencing, and we're working hard at the moment to fix it. I recommend you to deactivate your Viber, remove it and reinstall.

About your other question - any user that's connected to 3G when using Viber is essentially using up data off their data plan (Viber uses about 0.5MB per minute of call). If your plan is flat rate (monthly pay regardless of usage) then the call would be absolutely free. If you pay-per-MB, then you need to verify with your cell company about the rates they *they* charge you for using the internet on 3G.

It supports Landscape mode for messages. I think Landscape mode should be implanted application wide (In my opinion, it should be a Android requirement that all applications be avaliable in portrait and landscape mode but that is a opinion)

More things (pulled from my commment on the market)

- Multilanguage support. I think this should currently be number one. People still use your closest rival (WhatsApp) because it is avaliable in their language. Should have some basic ones at least like spanish, french, german, italian, etc....
- Notify everyone that you got Viber. I think when you install Viber it should ask you "Do you want everyone in your address book to know that you installed Viber?" It shouldnt automatically send out a mass message thruout the servers (this also would take a load of your servers).
- Landscape mode. It has been implanted for messages but it needs to be application wide
- Media sending. By starting with pictures, its a good step. But video would be nice as well. Audio is a bit redudent as your service has VoIP calling. Sending any type of file (within a size limit) would also be a nice touch.
- VoIP with video. Skype doesnt fully support this on mobile phones so you would be the first. Support both front and (even though it doesnt make sense) back camera.
- Location awareness. Im not a fan but some people do like to include their location when sending a message.
- Bug fixes. There are some bugs that kinda show its beta status. When I turn my phone from landscape to portrait in the contacts area, it says loading and does nothing and nothing changes. From portrait to landscape, same thing. A friend of mine was on HSPA+ and it says there was no internet connection and if I would like to place a normal call. There was internet as I could browse using the browser perfectly. Little things that keep Viber from going upwards.

I keep telling my friends that this is the future as WhatsApp trial runs out and Viber has promising features but you got a long road still ahead.

Good luck and thanks for attending the forum and listening.
