Is the Optimus Black coming to Virgin Mobile USA? There are rumors that it might be happening early next year.

The only thing that is proof positive is an FCC listing of a VM855, which is the same model number as the Sprint LG Marquee. I'm hoping it does, since the Motorola Triumph was an epic fail. I bought mine and had no 3G reception and the touchscreen was super-buggy. The VM lineup could use another large screen phone.

Oh that's good to hear! Any bit of info about it is helpful! :) And I myself was about to buy the Triumph, but for $300 it should've been much better than what they released the product as.

That's not really proof that VM will definitely get it, its just proof that it might or could. The appearance of a VM model number in an FCC filing only means that if VM decides to sell a phone that has the exact same radio access network capabilities as the Sprint branded version, LG has done the required testing and filed the required regulatory paperwork.

The Marquee is a tri-band phone. Since VM customers don't roam, they don't need the Verizon band and to this point, no VM phone can access the new CDMA network Sprint is building in Nextel's iDen band. If VM releases a 1900 MHz only version (which is a strong possibility since at this time all VM USA phones are 1900 MHz only) then LG will have to submit new paperwork to the FCC. In a real life example, the Optimus S and the Optimus V have separate FCC filings because they do -not- have the same radio access network capabilities.

LG, VM and/or Sprint corporate have never made any statements that VM is getting a version of the OB. If you see new FCC filings for a 1900 MHz only version with the VM855 model number, that's pretty good proof that LG and VM are readying a version for sale on VM. If you see a press release from LG, VM or Sprint that VM will be selling a version of the phone, that's really good proof that VM is getting a version of the phone. At this point, neither of those things have happened. I hope VM gets a version of the OB, but we have to wait and see.

A technicality - If the phone comes out on VM the model number would be VM855. The Sprint Marquee model number is LS855.

I just noticed that the Optimus Black is for sale on the VirginMobile site in Australia. Does anyone have any idea if this would work in the US?
