Dear creative minds and app developers,

I'm sure its been discussed and all.... but I think that the voice recognition software is capable of being much more advanced. There should be a way to just give your phone a voice command without having to manually open an app. It probably would have to be running in the background the whole time, analyzing everything it hears, so it may use a lot of battery and cpu. therefore it may be easier to have a starter phrase to tell it to listen more carefully. for example: say the said app is running in the background, listening to every noise, but it wouldn't begin to really analyize until you say something like; "hey, phone!" or "yo, droid!" (or whatever tag phrase). I don't know what would have to go into an app like that for it to work.... but hey, if an app like that was designed, then I think the android would be a really smart smartphone. In the end thanks for all the awesome apps you guys are already developing. be sure to tell me when someone develops something like that though.

    Thanks,
    Vince

    This app already exists:
Vlingo: Words to Action - Android app on AppBrain

    You can say things like
"Launch app ..." - It opens what ever app you tell it to
"Navigate to ..." - It launches navigation to whatever contact or location you tell it
"Text ... mobile..." - composes a text that you say to who ever you say
"Facebook..." - update your facebook status

All this and so much more

Also there is a setting that listens all the time in car mode, all you say is "Hey Vlingo" then it starts listening for your next command

does this vlingo work that well,i use my desire built in voice function but it rarely gets things right.to activate all commands it has to be set to US english, so im thinking that as i speak with an english accent this is the problem.

I was amazed at how well it works. I have a pretty strong southern (US) accent and it is pretty good. I don't know how the other languages other than US english work, but based on my experience I think it will at least be better than the default google voice commands. There are times that it doesn't get everything, but I have found that it does work better than google voice commands. I have replaced my long search press so that it uses Vlingo instead because it does work better and has more functionality.

Be sure tell you? I think you're confusing this site with your app concierge... :D
