Voicemail green notification circle not working

After a recent Voice mail update I am no longer getting the little green circle on my voice-mail icon that tells me I have a message and how many messages are pending. I called Sprint and they tried doing some reset of the voice mail app but that did not help and they then told me to go to a Sprint store. I'm running Android 2.3.5 on a HTC Evo. I really don't want to do a hard reset if there are any other options. Suggestions? Thanks!
