[VZW]Possible Jellybean Leak Coming Soon

I am having an issue now with Jelly Bean. I flashed it on Wednesday and everything was good that day and yesterday....I was getting like 16 hours of battery life....which is what I normally get. The only thing was I was in a non 4G area, so I had CDMA only selected. Today I got back to my home area and I have 4G.....I have 3 to 4 bars, but my battery life turned to garbage. I am getting maybe 7 or 8 hours of life. I have checked Better Battery Stats, GSam Battery Monitor Pro and the JB battery in settings. I have no rogue apps, my wakelocks are normal, my awake time is normal.....It's just like all of a sudden my battery has lost half of its capacity. On ICS I was getting 15-17 hours of 4G, but now I am getting half that. I am rooted, and running the new stock JB leak, no kernels or anything else. Again, not sure what is happing since on 3G my battery life was normal, but now on 4G its half, and on ICS I was getting the 15-17 hours on 4G. I do have better signal strength, but I hope that is not what is killing my battery.

It is daunting at first, but it becomes quite routine after just a couple flashes and some of the benefits are outstanding. Plus this is like the one of the easiest devices to do it on and it is very difficult to hard brick. I believe that it is possible to install the leaked jb update zip without root or unlocking, but if it isn't the official ota, it will take you off the update path. You would then probably have to unlock to get back on it.

You can do it via unlock or root, but you don't need both. As far as I'm aware it's not able to be flashed without one or the other. Unlocking is easier than root, though likely slower due to it wiping your data. I went with unlocking because I prefer to stay stock and wiping data before a large update is never a bad idea anyways. :)

For unlock follow these in order:

http://androidforums.com/verizon-ga...gs-root-samsung-galaxy-nexus.html#usb-drivers

http://androidforums.com/verizon-ga...s-root-samsung-galaxy-nexus.html#adb-fastboot

http://androidforums.com/verizon-ga...-things-root-samsung-galaxy-nexus.html#unlock

Then grab: http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-toro.img and put it in the same folder as fastboot on your computer.

Load the leaked files onto your phone's root directory.

Plug your phone into your computer.

Open a command line at the location where you have fastboot and clockworkmod.

Type: fastboot-windows.exe boot recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-toro.img

That will load clockwork on your phone without flashing it so you're still 100% stock.

In clockwork you'll want to select "update from sd card", likely browse to find the file. Flash IMM76Q and then JRO03O.

When you're done just go back on the menu until you get the option to reboot your phone. Simple! :D

there has got to be someone in the Chicago area that could help you root with some local support

I'm in the burbs of Chicago, but my boyfriend would strangle me if I invited a total stranger to the house. Besides, as much as I love my new rooted phone collection, there's no more room in the basement to bury more bodies.

Hi,

Thanks for the post. I used the XDA GALAXY NEXUS TOOLKIT V7.8 to unlock the bootloader. I had a hard time getting my PC to install the correct USB drivers, but eventually installing the actual Samsung Verizon Galaxy drivers worked. After the PC installed the USB drivers, the toolkit put the phone in fastboot mode and I was able to unlock the bootloader. I then booted up the phone and copied the two google OTA files in the root of the phone. Then ran the toolkit to and selected the option to boot an .img file. I had the toolkit boot the clockworkmod.img. Within clockworkmod, I installed ("install from zip") mysid IMM76Q from IMM76K. Then without rebooting, I installed mysid JRO03O from IMM76Q. I rebooted and now I'm running Jelly Bean, finally! Everything works.

I'm glad that I rooted and installed the first few leaked JB builds when they first came out. It is unacceptable that VZW is holding this update from a "Nexus" devise for so long. My contract has been up for a few months and I am seriously considering dumping VZW. The only thing holding me back is my grandfathered unlimited data plan.

It should be noted that only the VZW version seems to have radio issues, even after several attempts at a fix...
