I thought CM6 had it. Can't remember though if it was only turn off w/ trackpad or if it would turn on and off.

i did it by adb pushing but i think i see how update.zip's work now after looking in yours unless you have to mess with the meta folders when making one since i dont know how to change those files

So how do you install this? Does it work?

    *edit*

Found the update.zip in the XDA thread, and it works great! :D

Gotta be rooted, do it via clockworkmod.

    It works well.

does the update.zip/clockwork method accomplish the same thing as adb pushing the qwerty file? Or is one method better than the other.

One could argue the update.zip method is quicker and easier, but both will accomplish the same goal.

it works but not always responsive, sometimes you have to hold the track pad down for awhile

Yeah I'm starting to notice this too. How exactly does this mod work? Is there something staying active while the phone is idle to allow the trackpad to wake the phone? Could it possibly use up battery?

No. It just maps the dpad key to wake the phone. The exact mod is:

    key 272 DPAD_CENTER WAKE

    Added to the file.

Is this ok to use after applying the leaked OTA and with root? I have both at the moment.

Wow thanks, this is probably the best thing I have done since rooting. The trackball being about useless was driving me nuts. Now at least it does something.

Sorry for all the questions Adryn, but why does it take such a long press to wake the phone sometimes?

My theory is that it takes a short press when the phone is still awake, but the screen is off. It takes a longer press and hold at other times because the phone must respond to the wake up and ramp up from 250mhz. Or is it 245? I forget what the bottom idle frequency is for the DI.

I think you are probably right about this. I used to use NoLock and when the phone was plugged in and "awake", I could wake the phone instantly with the trackpad. Otherwise it required a long press.

Do you have to be rooted to use the "update.zip" file, and if not, would you just install it similarly to how the OTA update is installed? Thanks.

Yeah you must be rooted. It modifies a file on the system partition.

    This takes microseconds, if that.

Probably a low level software thing that just needs to get worked out. Its a known "issue" with all the wakeup apps.

And how long do you think it takes for a key command to hit the system?

    I bet less.

Look at folks with the Moto Droid who have kernels set to down clock to 125mhz. There is trouble waking in time to receive a call.

Don't think that just because the CPU ramps up quick that the rest of the system does too at the same time. Read what I said (see the and in there?), I didn't say that was the only factor, but I've no doubt that its one of them.

A hardware interrupt will be instant. Well, sorry, at 125MHz it might take 8 nanoseconds.

    Again, its software.

Again, as I said before, its a combination. Its been proven before on the Moto Droid.
