Whilst playing the new PSX4Droid app with a Warzone 2100 PSX ROM it made me think..

Warzone 2100 has been open source for several years. Could it be ported to take advantage of the touchscreen and better version (which includes multiplayer)? :D

Details and source here: Warzone 2100: A Real-Time Strategy game

    PC version:

    PSX Emulator :D:

A proper RTS with a touchscreen cursor would be SO good.

Forgive my ignorance I don't know the first thing about programming! But surely this must be easier than coding a new game? The game doesn't need gpu acceleration I don't know i just imagined it would be easier to make a pc port work than it will have been to emulate a console and get that version working.
I suppose a big downside is not being able to charge for it if you did make it.

It would be much easier than making a game from scratch, yes, but porting games is quite challenging still. For one, the game was written in C++, and some things can be quite a pain to convert to Java.

With that said, I am actually considering taking on this project (Though i can't say when I might start or even when it might be finished as I am a one man team (+ my friend who does graphics work and 3d modeling if needed) and a new semester is starting at my university here soon. This would be an awesome project though. I will contemplate it a bit more and see what happens.

That would be great, there may be others in the community on that site who may be interested in helping towards it.

Would probably play this for hours battery life permitting lol

I have a question. Is this game an actual RTS (In other words does it actually play in real time like pocket kingdoms, etc...) or is it a simple strategy game like Starcraft? The reason I ask is because you say it is a RTS, but from the pics it looks more like a Straegy-based war game.

Haven't played either of the games you mentioned but it is a strategy based war game much like Command & Conquer.

Ok so it's like Starcraft then. Gotcha.

Yea, I amm defintely interested in this, but I might implement my own graphics and animations and make it more futuristic (or more fantasy, not sure yet). I will try to get started on this as soon as possible. I would like to maybe find someone else to help me though.

I know the topic is not current, but i would recommend the Android game "Androwar". It is a real time strategy game. The target is to destroy the enemy units. You can build vehicles, upgrade units and factories and the game offers different game modes. I like it:)

There is a small video about the game.
