I personally think that's a ridiculous idea for a few reasons.

a- complaining hardly manipulates a sales rep to give something to you. Why? Because complaining is annoying.

b- to quote a friend, if you bought a computer and then found out in the next few weeks that the manufacturer had upgraded the OS, would you go back to them and demand a free upgrade yourself?

c- The phone just came it. It's bound to start gathering "free" accessories as the sales continue.

If it's any consolation, the adapters are probably crappy.

yeah I had the pre-order G1's and I just shipped the black G1 back! I needed that headphone adaptor. sersly. j/k

Nah I returned for the squeaking/creaking noise that got too loud.
But thankfully the local Tmo rep noted I was one until the 30 buyer's remorse period expired! So they suggested to just send the phone back that way instead of a warranty claim.

So it's not just the adapter I am getting but a different paint job. Ordered the white one and I also came back down to the local store and their shipment of white G1's came 2 days early!! The rep I was talking to willingly showed me the white G1 and the first thing I noticed that it is more sturdier and has a more solid feel to it. There wasn't any noise (squeak or creak) and it does look more classier than the black one. Well she said the black looked too plain.

i just got off the phone with t-mo and they are having a supervisor call me Monday about the whole issue. I told them i'll ship the headphones back, i just want the adapter. From what the rep told me it seems like we'll be able to work something out. To me its not about the $5 adapter, i just really like the way this one looks. If they tell me i have to pay for it i have no problem with that. I just want one, but if it free it's even better.

I think you guys misunderstand me by what i mean by complain. I didn't call and yell, and thats not what i meant for people to do. Complaining can be done in a nice way. I called and was very nice with the people i spoke to at T-Mo. But if people don't call and let them know that they feel something is wrong, then T-Mo wont ever fix it.

It's not something that needs fixing...

The thing that people continually fail to realize is that with every new product there will be a bunch of little upgrades and promotional additions as the sales improve/product develops further.

That doesn't entitle the people who bought the product when it first hit the shelves to go back and say "well, I think you should give that to me too."

You already have the product. What are you going to do, send it back because you're pissed that they aren't going to give you a cheap adapter?

    Seriously doubtful.

Of course there will be little upgrades with every product. Just like cars get little upgrades every year until the redesigned model comes out. That doesnt mean that we shouldn't attempt to get something that comes with a phone a month after it was released. If i get it for free i'll be happy, and if i dont at least i tried. It doesn't hurt anyone to try. If they give me an option to purchase it i'll be happy to do that too. But u know what free is better than the $15 or $20 i'm estimating they are going to want for it.

I guess when my car comes out with an upgraded engine model, I'll just go bitch to the sales company because I don't think it's fair that that car has a better engine than mine.

    Makes perfect sense.

My point is that this is a phone not a car. This particular phone also just came out a month ago. So yea I'll go "bitch" all I want. Anyways my reason for this post was not to get in a pissing contest about who is right or who is wrong. Anyone who wants to call to T-Mo and ask to see if they can get this adapter, since the headphones sucked, go ahead since it seems like they will work with you.

Good luck with that. Just remember you get more with sugar than with salt.

This would explain why my buddy who got one a week before I got my G1 didn't know what headphone adapter I was talking about when I told him there was one in the box. That sucks for those early adopters.

oh yea no doubt i'll get more with sugar and not salt. Thats why i was very nice to the people at T-Mo when i called. I was just implying that people have the right to complain to a company if they feel they were wronged out of something. I put the word "bitch" down because thats what they were implying i was going to do. To me complaining doesn't involve yelling or screaming. It just involves letting someone know you are unhappy, and maybe they can resolve the problem for you. If they can't, oh well life goes on. But why not try, it doesn't hurt anyone

ericsscion, how you held your nerve in this thread i have no idea.... i would have exploded 12 posts ago...

    Nintendo recalling straps: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3155930
    Nintendo wii grips: http://www.switched.com/2007/10/03/nintendo-offering-free-wii-mote-grip-sleeves/
    Xbox supplying new cables: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/recalls04/2005/xbox.html

Ok, so the last example is a safety recall, but these were off the top of my head. I remember pioneer supplied a new HDMI board with the PDP43XE when SkyHD came out becuase it didn't work with it... There must be loads of examples of when people get together and complain, the manufacturer gives in. Imagine the press if everyone did? immense.

You're all shooting down the chance to get a freebie for what? props? prove that you can wipe your ass with 10 bucks? I don't understand how you could rubbish the idea.

I'd say it's called maturity, and the realization that this is the internet. Why so serious?

Actually, those all involve safety. In the first example, it was a faulty strap that had to be replaced. The second was a design flaw with obviously destructive consequences.

What you've pointed out are serious flaws, things that impair the function or potentially harm the consumer/personal property. In other words: liability. Not supplying a 3.5" adapter is hardly the same thing.

Is it not obvious? I can't speak for anyone else but it comes across as, well, petty. I could see if there was a flaw that made the G1 dangerous, or work inconsistently, or was a surprise. Or, if the adapter was 50 bucks and the only company that makes them is HTC. The USB mini port was none of these things. HTC builds all their devices this way, and it was known before the G1 was released that it didn't have a standard headphone jack.

It's a lot like going to a store and saying "yeah, I bought this flashlight yesterday and I see that today you offer a free candybar with purchase, can I get the candybar?" To me, it's an overactive sense of entitlement.

The way I see it is complaining gets you no where but it never hurts to ask... no question is ever stupid and the worst thing they can tell you is no; so.... if you care ask if they tell you no spend the 5 bucks..... but complaining that just doesn't help anyone....

I understand both sides here. Complaining really doesn't get you anywhere, but I doubt that ericscion expressed himself the right way. The way he's been saying it is to voice your unsatisfaction w/o whining. We did jump the gun and buy our G1's before other and now they are receiving "upgraded" packages. BUT, this isn't your average adapter. This one has an extended cord with a microphone and multi-function button. From looking around similar adapters run for $15+. I don't know about the rest of you but money is tight these days.

A call to t-mo doesn't cost me a thing. I'm always polite with them as they are with me. And if they won't send me one? So be it trying won't harm me.

Because this is supposed to be a serious forum for serious discussion on serious matters.

I would ask for the candybar. To me, its lacking any sense of entitlement as a consumer. Your the one with the money.

I'm not sure what's funnier here, the mock seriousness or the fact that a 3.5mm headphone adapter is "serious matters". Damn, you made me chuckle before I had my morning coffee, that's not supposed to happen! :p :D
