I have some weirdness when trying to answer my phone. I searched these forums and it doesn't look like anyone else is complaining about it. Is it just me?

Note: I had to play around with it a bit to replicate the problems because sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.

I can classify the problems into two categories. 1) When the screen is off when the phone is ringing. and 2) When the screen is on and I see Caller Id etc...

    1) Behavior when the screen is off when the phone is ringing:
First off, I'm not sure why sometimes the screen is on or off when it's ringing. I keep the phone in my pocket so I wonder if its the “proximity detector” some people have mentioned. When I pull the phone out of my pocket, sometimes the screen turns on, sometimes it doesn't. Yet sometimes I can sneak a peek in my pocket at the caller ID. Anybody know what determines what makes the screen on or off when a call is coming in?

When the screen is off, the green answer button does nothing. This is particularly frustrating when the phone is in my hand with nothing in front of it to block the proximity detector, yet I cannot answer it. Giving the phone a little shake sometimes makes it tun on, bust sometimes doesn't. Maybe the shake effect is just coincidence.

Also, pressing the side buttons will not silence it like they do when the screen is on. The only button that works is the red one which sends the caller to voice mail.

    2) Behavior when the screen is on and the phone is ringing:
Green button answers it, as it should.
Red button sends it to voice mail, as it should.
Side buttons silence it, as they should.

The home menu and back buttons send it directly to voice mail. This is frustrating if I'm pulling the phone out of my pocket ad accidentally brush one of those going for the green button. Anybody else have this problem?

Also I was reading on other threads about holding the red button until options come up. Mine does not do this. The red button just sends caller to voice mail no matter how long I hold it.

    3) Sometimes my screen does not go to sleep. But stays on the “screen locked, pres menu to unlock” screen. This often happens after I miss a call, or just hit the red button to check the time and then set it down. But only sometimes and not others. Any clues?

    Thanks in advance,
    Yo

I have had some installed apps give me problems when trying to answer calls on my Moment. I don't remember exactly which apps were causing the problems because I deleted them. I think one was a task killer and the other one was an app that would block unknown or unwanted phone numbers.

Try deleting apps and see if that gets things back to normal. You may have to do one at a time to narrow down the "bad" app.

I have the same issue. I have several apps installed. should we compile a list to see what matches? Advanced Task Killer was mentioned. Has anyone removed it to see if it fixes the issue?

I have had the same issues but they are very random yet extremely annoying. I also had Advanced Task Killer installed and have just removed it to see if that could be the culprit. We'll see. Thanks for the thread - thought I was going a little crazy....

    Hi:

I had the phone won't wake up or respond when receiving a call problem. I also had Advanced Task Killer installed. I returned the phone, got a replacement, didn't reinstall Advanced Task Killer and haven't had the problem since. I can't say if it was Advanced Task Killer or the new phone but all is well now.

I've definetely had an issue with the phone not wanting to sleep when I turned it on to check the time, or a text. Usually, the menu home and back keys dim out followed by the screen turning off. In fact it's doing it now! lol. The only resolve (temporary) is restarting the phone. Even then it'll start doing again it after a few hours. Same gripe with the phone's screen blank during a call.

I do not have, nor have ever had Advanced Task Killer and I still have the problem. So Im guessing ATK is innocent. Or at least in my case.

These are my aftermarket (third-party) apps:
    - Sheep Dash (uninstalled)
    - Barcode Scanner
    - CNET Scan & Shop
    - Google Sky Map
    - GPS status
    - GPS Toggle Widget
    - Maverick Light
    - My Tracks
    - ShopSavvy

Here are some Geek Stats in case this means something to somebody:
    Model Number: SPH-M900
    Firmware: 1.5
    Baseband Version: S:M900.8.0s.cj05
    Kernal: 2.6.27
    Build Number: CUPCAKE.cj05
    Hardware Version: M900.8.0

Thanks for posting. It's comforting to know I'm not the only one. I'm actually wondering if this is intended functionality.

I think most of this has to do with the proximity sensor. In other words it was sensing my pocket or my thumb as being too close and turning the screen off assuming it was my ear that was too close. Somebody also mentioned screen protectors or cases might confuse it as well.

Try doing these experiments and post your results here.

    1) Call you phone and hold your palm over the top half of the screen while its ringing. Does the screen turn off?
    2) If the screen does turn off, can you answer it by pressing the green button while it is off?
    3) Do any other buttons work while the screen is off and the phone is ringing? (like the side buttons to silence it)

    4) If your screen stays on, or when you move your palm away to have the screen come on, what happens when you touch the home, menu or back button?

Also post if you replaced your phone and have different functionality with the new phone.

    Thanks

    Ill go first:

    1) Call you phone and hold your palm over the top half of the screen while its ringing. Does the screen turn off? YES. And it turns back on shortly after I move my hand away.

    2) If the screen does turn off, can you answer it by pressing the green button while it is off? No

    3) Do any other buttons work while the screen is off and the phone is ringing? (like the side buttons to silence it) No, except the red button sends caller to voice mail.

    4) If your screen stays on, or when you move your palm away to have the screen come on, what happens when you touch the home, menu or back button? Sends caller to voice mail just as though I pressed the red button.

I have this problem, I get the screen to turn on every time by sliding out the keyboard and then pressing the green answer button. Then slide the keyboard back in. Very annoying, but it works every time.

Wow, do you have to do that even with nothing in the way of the screen's proximity sensor? (hands, screen protectors, pocket... etc) If so, I'd take it back and exchange it if I were you.

Rarely this will happen to me after the update but if I take my finger and put it over the sensor and take it off again it usually wakes up.

The problem I normally have it getting it to turn off when I'm texting and on a call or more importantly the phone wakes up for the popup and then i start face dialing.

After uninstalling ATK I have not had the issues as before. I can silence a call while the phone is in my pocket by hitting the volume rocker and the screen always wakes up when the phone is ringing so I can answer it. It seems odd that a program can make the phone behave like this but preliminary testing indicates it might be the case. If this is true then it's also possible that other apps could have a similar effect on the phone. It might not be a programming error but something with the SDK or API or maybe I've just gotten lucky over the last couple of days and everything has worked. If the problem reoccurs I will repost.
