Just wanted to post in here to get the ball rolling for anybody that might have purchased the Electrify. Many of the discussions in the MoPho (if not all) will likely apply to the Electrify, so I thought I'd post a link in here and invite any Electrify owners to join the discussions in the MoPho forums:

Motorola Photon 4G - Android Forums

Cheers and welcome to the Android family (for those that are 1st timers, aka "newbs")

    Thanks, drex!

I'll be purchasing my Electrify fairly soon...

No problem. Hopefully, there are enough sales of the Electrify that'll allow for more support of both devices (and that's assuming that everything is exactly the same with exception to 4G).

I have had mine for two days now. So far, no problems. Battery life seems to be better. I think the GPS is considerably faster.

I'd be interested to see if it has any of the quirks that the MoPho has.

I'm new to Andriod so forgive my ignorance... I've searched for reasons to Root but got so many hits I'll never find the answer. So tell me what is the pro's of rooting your Electrify?

Update: Did lots of searching and reading - found out some of the reasons. Seems like most root to print screens, others mess with the ROM and phone settings. Got more reading to do before I decide to join the masses...

Actually, it's not necessarily the "masses" that root. There are other benefits to rooting. I personally can't say how easy or difficult the process is because I haven't rooted since first owning my EVO at launch last year (June 2010). Here are some other benefits that have been mentioned:

    - Ability to use wireless hotspot without additional charge
    - Ability to increase processing speeds according to need (e.g. overclock), although I believe this does have an effect on battery life if not done properly
    - Ability to gain "root" access (hence the name) to directories on the phone, in order to delete certain apps that would normally not be able to be removed.
    - Allows for editing of certain parts of built in phone features, to add visual customizations (as well as audio)

I still haven't jumped on board the "rooting" train, but I am aware that there are many advantages to it. For me personally, my phone performs all the functions I could possibly want, so I haven't found an overwhelming need to root. That said, more recently, I've been leaning in that direction. For me, it will really come down to whether or not it's absolutely necessary. I'm so keen on making sure that I know exactly what I'm doing, prior to moving forward, that part of my hesitation has been trying to figure out how to back-up the stock ROM completely (in the event something goes wrong) and also knowing exactly what to do when I want to revert to the stock settings and un-root the phone. I'm referring to the actual step-by-step process, which has never been abundantly clear to me.

All that said, I think you're doing the wise thing by taking your time in making that decision. Many people will have the opinion that, "it's easy," but at the same time, that term is relevant to each individual's perspective. I've been happy with the MoPho, unrooted. Once I take the time to really feel comfortable knowing exactly all that I would need to do, in the event something goes wrong, I'll probably root at that time. That's the thing, for me it would take time to learn all of that thoroughly...and I just don't have the patience or time to devote to doing that just now...especially because I don't have the need for it.
