I'm a bit of a security/privacy nut. I haven't started wearing a tin-foil hat yet, but I do spend a good bit of time trying to find the best security/privacy apps for Android. So, I'm going to list my favorite security/privacy apps so far and hopefully everyone will do the same. Here's my list ... Orbot. Allows you to run your phone's communications through the TOR network. K9 Email with APG Encryption. Allows you to send encrypted email from your Android phone. The only issues I have is that the email database is not encrypted and there is no application password. I am told by the Guardian Project that they are working on their own branch of K9 that will address these issues in the near future. DroidCrypt. Allows you to encrypt files and folders with strong encryption. The only issue I have with this program is that the encrypted filenames are still visible. The app developer says they are working on a version that will allow you the option of encrypting folders so that the filenames are no longer visible. DroidWall. Allows you to control what applications have access to the internet. Gibberbot. Chat client that supports encrypted chats and works with TOR. LBE *************. Allows you to control what applications have access to your phone and its information such as location, internet access, SMS messages, contacts, call logs, and phone identification. TextSecure. Text messaging application that stores text messages in encrypted database and allows you to exchange encrypted messages with other TextSecure users. RedPhone. Provides end-to-end encryption for telephone calls with other Redphone users. HistoryEraser. Erases call logs, frequent call (favorites), browser history, google market searches, google map histories, youtube searches, gmail search histories, search shortcuts. CacheMate. Erases your caches on your phone and its applications. WhisperCore* Full disk encryption for Android. Unfortunately, it is still in beta and only supports Nexus S and Nexus One. Obscura. Secure camera app that can obscure, encrypt or destroy pixels within an image. LastPass. Lastpass is the bomb on my PC. The Dolphin Browser add-on works ok for Android, but to get full functionality, you need to use LastPass's App/Browser. Android Phone Password. This isn't an App. It comes with the phone, but is a good first line of defense in case you lose your phone or someone picks it up and wants to nose around. Still looking for a program that can secure overwrite free-space. Maybe I'm confused as to how Android memory works and this is why I can't find anything that does this, but I love Eraser for my PC and if possible, would like to find something similar for Android. Also wondering if there is anything like CCleaner for Android other than CacheMate. Finally, I'd love to hear suggestion on what people think are the best antivirus/malware apps, in addition to any other security/privacy apps.
