I am sure we can root the Captivate (once a root inevitably becomes available). From what I can see AT&T installs:

    AT&T Nav
    AT&T Mobile TV
    AT&T Mobile Banking
    AT&T Contacts
    AT&T Music

None of which interferes with the stock Android applications that fulfill the duties. I would like to uninstall that crap though....but I do like the UI enhancements of TouchWiz minus the applications menu.

The fact you can't install third party apps is what is ridiculous.

AT&T's not blocking all 3rd party apps on any phone. They're disallowing installation of applications from any location but the android market. which, imo, is pretty smart, in a security sense.

    Yeah, but it's irritating.

AT&T is such a fail company. They finally start getting decent Android phones, the iPhone can finally multitask, and they decide to screw over their data plans. Why people are still with that company is beyond me.
