Morning everyone, I am sort of new to this Android thing, well I had the Cliq for about 7 months and just lightly used it. I never tried to modd it like you guys do. Searching the Internet sometimes yields the wrong answers and figured Id ask you guys after hours of reading on here and not really finding meaning of terms, I might have not put the correct search words in to find the info I need.

Ok, I am possibly going to switch from the Cliq to the Vibrant. The question is, what does "rooting" (and I have more words Id like to know) mean, well better yet, are there any places (threads etc.) that have the meaning of those type of terms? Id rather hear it from you guys on here than just typing it into google. I forget the rest of them Id like to know, but reading threads and when someone mentions something than I don't understand the whole darn thing! Sucks being new sometimes, but everyone needs to start somewheres. It def seems you guys and gals know what the heck your talking about so I trust the answer you'll give me over a blind search.

    Thanks

Noob, newbie, neophyte, etc = brand new user and that they have no idea what they are doing...

Root or rooted = Super User access, android is linux based and by rooting you have super user acces which is the only way to access your root directory with all functions, read, write, copy, paste, delete, etc... see here for in-depth explanation : Superuser - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

For how to root and all things rooted based on this phone go here: All Things Root (Vibrant) - Android Forums

Thanks, I will check out those links to educate myself so I don't have to ask questions thats prob been answered a zillion times, sorry about that and thanks for your reply! Sometimes this can get overwhelming when your just starting out and there's so much to learn. Also picking a new phone is hard enough to do these days, add not knowing all about this and that equals to a stressful time!!:D

Asking questions for answers is the entire point of the forums... and yes these questions are asked on a daily bases in hundreds of threads and we don't mind answering them, all we ask is that you search the forums before creating new threads ( Android Forums Search ) as for Android and just starting out... everyone was a noob once... no one is born with the knowledge of how to use it and if you've never used linux based OS things will may seem a little overwhelming because you even have to learn the structure and base commands from scratch... personally I run Ubuntu ( Ubuntu homepage | Ubuntu ) (linux based) and would suggest anyone trying to learn linux use it as with most other versions of linux can be installed and uninstalled in windows just like any other software and will allow you to choose which OS to boot from the next time you start your computer (dual boot)... Its a good way to feel linux out without having to make a full commitment to switching the OS and if you screw it up all you have to do is boot into windows and uninstall...
