what happened to the google search bar

as the title asks. in the 1.5 os, you just click the search bar and the keyboard pops up and you start typing in that bar. now in the 2.1 os, when you click on the search bar (android or htc widget), it pops up a new search bar and the keyboard. why can't we just type in the widget i have on my screen? or am i missing something?
i know if i just hit the search button on the phone it will bring up the same search bar that clicking the search bar widget, but was nice to just type right there. no extra things opening.

Oh yeah. didn't even notice that... man, that's dumb. old way was better and faster. lame.

So no ideas with what happened to the old quick search bar? I guess I'll just have to get used to using the magnifying glass button.

Yeah i didnt really notice it till your post, just put your search bar up top and blink when you press on it see if that helps
