What is that in the corner?

It's a light sensor. So when you're on a phone call and you put the phone up to your ear... (no longer senses light)... it shuts the screen off so your face can't mistakenly activate any buttons while you're on the call. Then when you move the phone away from your ear... (senses light)... it will turn the screen back on so you can end the call, etc.
