I'm hoping someone can help me out here with Vanilla Android. I hear over and over how Vanilla Android is better than Sense or Blur or whatever other interface is running. I'm wondering why that is. I confess that I like Sense. For me, it works. I'm willing to try something else if it works better though. What are the pros/cons of using vanilla Android vs Sense?

The simple answer is it's probably a little faster and smother if you're running vanilla.
Everything still works the same. But Sense just makes things prettier. When I had my HTC Eris, i really liked the Clock/weather sense widget, and it took me a while to get used to not having it.

But now, i would choose vanilla over sense.

What I got from the linked post it's that it's really user preference. Does that seem accurate?

I think I may flash Cyanogen for a couple of days and see how I like it. I'm running SkyRaider with Sense and love it. I'm curious if I get a better/different performance with Vanilla.

the big advantage of vanilla is it doesnt have all the bloatware the carriers load onto the phone. its android, and nothing else. take sprint for instance...you get sense, and then you get the nfl, nascar, tv, navigation, and 37 other things youll never use but you cant easily get rid of. at first i was in love with sense, but after using CM6 with LP Plus, I can say I dont miss sense the slightest. maybe that will change when the updated sense comes out?

Carriers can still add all their trash to stock Android if they want to, though. I guess it wouldn't be called stock then, but it'd still be vanilla.

Personal preference IMO. I tried Launcher Pro a few weeks back and decided that I liked it, so I'd already more or less moved from Sense. Going from there to OpenDesire wasn't a big shock.

I'm using Beautiful Widgets, so I still have the clock/weather app.

    I say personal taste/preference.

    I hate stock android.

    I love touchwiz.

I flashed Cyanogen and used it for about an hour. I didn't care for it much at all. I like Sense better, but I may screw with it over the weekend. Sense just looks better IMO.

i used to be a big proponent of vanilla android. then i dled launcherpro.

like someone said before.. is just personal preference over what you want out of a UI experience.

I think the main reason is you're supposed to get updates faster with vanilla Android. It might be easier to make ROMs (bootloader issues not included....lol) for vanilla Android devices.

After that, its probably preference. After using ADW & Launcer Pro, I will never use vanilla Android launchers again.

Vanilla is a lot cleaner to me. I don't think I would go back to a skinned UI over vanilla.

I considered using vanilla but its too plain to me. I understand its bloatware free, but certain things that come with sense is still a convenience like the clock/weather widget and a few other things.
