What is the best word processor app?

Okay, I will hopefully be getting my Evo in a few days (supposed to have arrived today, but it's been backlogged :( )

When I do, I'm downloading the Keypro and syncing it with a Freedom Pro folding bluetooth keyboard. I just got word that the Evo, the app, and the keyboard work together flawlessly! :D

So, what word processing app should I chose to use with my Evo?

I'm planning on blogging, writing emails, short stories, and yes... even working on a novel or two.

I'm hoping to replace my laptop for any writing I do out of the house with my beautifully Evo.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to save files on my phone and later transfer them to my computer and also upload them to google docs (depending on what I am writing/doing).

I'd like a built in dictionary/spell check and thesaurus.

Programmable shortcut keys would also be a wishlist feature.

So... what do you guys all recommend?

Oh, and I'm not concerned about the cost. I'm willing to pay for a quality product.

Docs To Go by dataviz handles all my needs. Not sure past that. Hope that helps. Full version is 14.95 and you can catch on sale occasionally.

Acccctually the price is only $9.95!! I was gonna pull the trigger at $14.95 and when I added it to my cart when I logged in a paid online, the price was $9.95!!

HOWEVER, you MUST DO THE FOLLOWING: you have to download, intall and REGISTER the FREE version first. THEN if you "upgrade" within, I believe, 7 days of the free version install, the price is only $9.95!!

I also want to make some comments of the ANDROID version of Docs to Go vs. whatever other version of Docs to Go someone reading this might have used previously.

I upgraded from a Palm Centro to the EVO and thought I would get AT LEAST the same experience (GOOD experience) with Docs to Go with such a POWERFUL and capable phone such as the EVO. NOT THE CASE!!! :-((

NOTE: your situation might be different because I am using a Mac running OS 10.4 and believe there are some limitations that I am experiencing that a PC user or Mac user with HIGHER OS version might not have. That being said, MAKE SURE YOU RESEARCH your phone and computer OS so that you are not surprised!!

I had Docs to Go for Palm on my Centro before I got the EVO. LOVED the app. Docs to Go had a desktop application for my Mac that allowed me to edit a document on either my phone or my computer and sync either way with no problem. I would open up a file in Word, save the file, sync the phone and there it is on my phone.

Well, never would have thought in my WILDEST DREAMS that Docs to Go on the EVO would be so disappointing!! :-((

I cannot Sync to my Mac like I can with the Docs to Go app with Palm. You have to mount the EVO vs USB to appear as a drive on your desktop then drag/drop/overwrite files. Annoying...tedious...and can be "dangerous" because you might overwrite a file that you wanted to keep. My previous Docs to Go app on my Mac would be able to determine if changes were made on BOTH documents then transfer a copy to BOTH devices (computer and phone) to allow you to see which version of the doc you wanted to keep. Not so any more.

Also, with the EVO having ONLY tough options to access formatting and other menus I found typing and formatting and moving around the document a bit tedious. Docs to Go on my Palm had a FANTASTIC little "formatting palette" with customizable options such as saving, bolding, underlining, zooming, etc. As far as I can see there is NO SUCH FORMATTING TOOLBAR/PALETTE!! :-(( Instead of just "turning on" say, "bold," with a touch of a "B" for "bold" button, you have LEAVE your typing screen, touch around and get into your formatting screen, choose bold format, RETURN to your typing screen, type when you need...and then REPEAT THE STEPS to turn OFF the bold!!

The other option is to just type and format later...go back and select text and then apply formatting to the text you already typed. But that is just a matter of which annoyance you prefer because you STILL have to leave your typing mode, go to a "select text mode" chose the text by highlighting THEN go to the formatting menu, turn on bold or underlining and apply to the selected text.

There is also a WEIRD situation when I have been typing at the end of a document where it becomes VERY DIFFICULT to position your I-bar and/or select text. The area on the screen gets VERY TIGHT when you are at the bottom of your document where the top of the virtual keyboard is on the screen. For some reason...and you CANNOT turn it off from what I see...certain movement around the document causes a "-/+" zoom control to pop up on the screen. It is nice to be able to zoom in our out to make the text bigger, but this pop up appears RIGHT OVER where you are typing at the bottom of your document and just above the top of the virtual keyboard where you are typing. VERY WEIRD...I can't see to control it....and VERY tedious maneuvering around it...

If they could POSSIBLY incorporate a customizable static or hideable toolbar/palette to TOGGLE formatting on/off that would be WONDERFUL!! But until then, it just AIN'T what I was hoping for... :-((

Sorry if you are confused by what I'm saying...you just have to experience it. And the PROBLEM IS that the FREE version does not allow you to EDIT DOCUMENTS...it is only a VIEWER. So you MUST PAY for the item to "experience" what I have experienced.

I am STILL probably gonna keep the app...I really do NOT know what else to use and I CONSTANTLY use and edit Word docs. I hope I can get used to the annoyances and/or figure out some workarounds, but for now, I'm disappointed...

    Hope this info helps!!

I think this has to do with Android's version being so much newer. I do know the version Palm had was a lot better. Look for improvements to come though. You can find something I am sure to sync the app or email it if need be in the meantime? I know not as good as it could be but options...

Agreed...but I'm still upset that "so much newer" would be INFERIOR in terms of some functions. I know we all have to get used to the virtual keyboard that pops up and work around that...but NO FORMATTING PALETTE?? It has been on Word for like a DECADE and was on Docs to Go's other versions for however long. Why leave out that IMPORTANT and USEFUL feature, ya know??

$14.95 isn't too bad. It's a great program. They seem to think BlackBerry users are full of cash cause they charged $49.99 for that version. I also used it on a Palm Centro for only $9.99

I've had docs to go for a few years now and it's never really let me down. I don't get extremely involved with the extra features though. If it's needs a lot of formatting I just do that on my laptop!

    Scott, THANK YOU!

I AM using a Mac Powerbook G4 with OS 10.4... so your information was very important for me.

Have you found a replacement word processor program yet? Everyone has been referring me to Docs to Go (on other forums/stores), yet I agree the syncing feature and quick access to most used formats (bold, italic, etc) is really important.

    It's not a deal-breaker, but I have to admit, it's really disappointing. :(

I'm after the same kind of app, but I'm only an occasional user. Are there any free apps around that serve a similar function (i.e. creating a simple word processed document to take notes in a meeting)?

Thanks (that's my first post - just got myself a Desire, woo!)

Can someone tell me if with "documents to go", can you HIGHLIGHT pdf's? Also, can you add a "comment" box?

I purchaed the app when it was $5.99. They are always fluctuating the price for the Android. It is worth the buy tho when it is as low as $15 or cheaper. Great app.

I have used Docs To Go app since I purchased my Asus Transformer tablet a year ago, and loved it in the beginning. Though I've been having difficulty with it lately. When I'm typing up a Word document, it suddenly says that it is not a valid file and doesn't exist and completely deletes the document. I've had entire papers, that I worked on for a number of hours completely wiped, as well as notes for an entire class period deleted. I am a pretty heavy user of the Word part of the application, and have experienced it far too many times. I am sick of it, and do not recommend you to purchase it.
If anyone has a recommendation for a better application for Word and other types of documents, I would really appreciate it.

Although I'm not a heavy user creating Word documents, I use Quick Office Pro. It works really well. I think you might be able to try it out for a few days free to see if it works for you. It even has a spell check feature now.

I actually ended up downloading OfficeSuite Pro, based on a lot of research that I did, stating it is the best out there right now. It has basically everything that comes in Microsoft Word on your computer. I have been very happy with it the past couple days, so hopefully it works out great. Thank you for your input though. :)

Office Suite pro is $0.25 today only in the Play Store. I just bought it.
