So I plugged my phone into my PC as a storage device to transfer over a file, and i noticed there was a zipped file "update.zip"
I never downloaded an update, and I don't know what to do with it. So far, I have just left this alone, I haven't deleted or installed, but what do you guys think?

I'm nervous about installing it, you know?
I have no idea where it came from...besides, if it was the OTA, wouldn't I get an alert?

It would just say that you have an update...no alert. You should see how large the update is and send it to a developer first. Once copied in your comp and/or sent, do the update.

You don't need it. The update.zip only gets used once and then it just sits there taking up space. I always delete them after they've been applied.
