Second Droid I've gotten, and the second Droid with specks of annoying dust/dirt/whatever underneath the physical glass so I cannot remove them in any shape way or form.

Most of them are RIGHT on the edge of the LCD and the black border... So for most it wouldn't be an issue at all, but I'm very OCD with my electronics and I don't pay $300 ***ing dollars for something for it to have defects on the display.

I'm taking this back, and I won't be swapping it for another Droid. Not taking my chances, why go through the same grief? I'm cancelling my contract again, before i get slapped with the $36 activation fee and usage fees.

    BTW... This is unacceptable Motorola.

And to all you guys, I AM NOT bashing the Droid - the thing is freaking awesome and so much fun to use. But until Motorola can produce these phones with proper workmanship and quality control, I cannot and will not.

Strange - after one week of using, including keeping it in my pocket b/c I don't have a holster yet, I have 0 specks under the glass....

If you bought both of them from the same store, try visiting a different store out of your area....

I did! First Droid from Best Buy, second from a Verizon store.

BTW, does the Verizon store charge a restocking fee for just a simple return before 30 days? Cuz the salesperson said they do, but the receipt says only if you exchange it.

    ???

I'm really scared the Verizon people will see that I've bought & returned a Droid already just a week ago... And will say I'm doing something 'fishy" or something, even though I'm not. I just caneled my contract the first time cuz they didn't have any new phones to replace it with at Best Buy.

So I signed up again for another contract again at the Verizon store... Same deal... I'm just gonna cancel the whole thing. Again.

IDK but I'm nervous they'll say no.

ummm, why cancel the contract without seeing if you can find a replacement? I don't understand your tactics at all, but if that is what you want to do, it's your call....

I bought my first Droid last Monday night at Best Buy, carried it in the front pocket of my jeans for 3 days with no problems... on Thursday afternoon I went out shopping for a couple of hours, pulled out my phone to check for any notifications and found that I had some sort of dust or debris under the glass of the screen. I was not happy. I went straight back to Best Buy, showed the phone salesperson the phone, she was very surprised, informed me that I was the first person that had returned a Droid with this problem, then quickly exchanged out the phone for me.

You're certainly not alone in regards to your "electronics ocd" as I can assure you that if this second phone ends up having the same problem I'll probably return it and wait for the HTC Passion to come out.

The restocking fee is only for exchanges. If you are going to cancel the contract all together and you are within the 30 days there is not much they can do....

^ Thanks for the reassurance dude. ;)

IDK I REALLY hate doing this cuz like I said, the phone itself it awesome. Google, Android 2.0, everything.

The main reason I'd rather return & cancel instead of exchange is, I'm afraid they'll say "I don't see any dust" and call me crazy. Do they generally look at you weird if you complain about dust under the screen??? LOL :p

I'm assuming that it's because A) he doesn't want to try replacing his second Droid for a third Droid (can't say as I blame him) or B) because there's really not any other phone on Verizon that offers a comparable experience to the Droid. And I know that some folks might argue that the Eris does, but IMO the Eris is very much a Droid-lite and not a phone worth investing a 2 year contract in (especially with so many 2.0 phones with faster processors said to be coming soon).

If you're already that paranoid, don't look in your attic :p

Seriously, I can understand about the dust getting in there after you bought it - my understanding was that it was already there.

So far, the only specks I see are the 2 that made it underneath my protective shield....

In your case, I'd be mad as a hornet as well - and I'd be demanding an exchange, and complaining loudly about the dust if they tried to charge me a restock fee.

It was a huge problem with the Storm and they were pretty lenient at first but as time went by they became less accepting of the problem. I think if you are trying to leave and go to another provider they are going to urge you to stay and you might have to put your foot down and be stern but remain civil ,if possible ;)

The worst customer service experience I ever had was with a Rainbo vaccum but a close second was trying to return my Verizon Touch Pro and cancel the line within the WFG. I argued and argued with this woman on the phone and guess what, in the end I caved and kept the phone. Ended up selling it on ebay losing my @$$ and I am still stuck with the line today. Huge mistake.

If you are sure your done trying, put your foot down and end it, She'll understand.... :D

Beautiful! Thank you... Very well put, and that's EXACTLY why I'd rather just cancel. I wanted to get on board with Verizon cuz of the Droid, no other reason.

I'll wait and see if the HTC Pasison comes out soon.

Man... why do I read forums :p.. because now I have noticed I have this problem. Idk what I should do, exchange it or deal with it... If I exchange it, should I just suck it up and go to best buy and have them install a full body protector? I'm thinking that would stop dust and stuff from sneaking in. Let me know what you guys think and I posted a picture of what I have found on my droid and yes it is under the glass with no way to get to it. It is located on the very bottom right edge in the black (no screen) area.

If dust is getting in , its probably doing it through the USB port or the headphone Jack and an invisible shield isn't going to help.

Oh well, guess I'll just suck it up then, I love this droid cuz it has zero problems. I run the risk of getting one with something wrong with it if I exchange again. Ill just go buy some air duster or something and see if that helps. Damn... dust annoys me but as long as it isnt on the actual screen part I guess I shouldn't care.
