well, to install all you do is put the bootanimation.zip into /data/local. as for which is the best, are you looking for something in your face or a little more subtle?

my favorite is called midnight. it's basically the stock eye recolored with blue and darkened.

cyborg is a pretty crazy hi-res boot. there's also a bsod as well as a verbose dos style boot up animation.

I'd say the easiest way is stick it on your card and use root explorer and copy and paste it into /system/media

The shatter ones is nice. I don't care much for the loop part.

There's one called Evolve I think, its pretty nice. I can't find it though.
I still have it on my computer. The file is like 45mb. It won't even fit on my phone anymore.

The one in pete's roms (enabled by script) is supposed to speed up boot times. So, obviously, I use that one.

Is there a way to have like, a completely blank boot animation? Just a black screen? I do this with Windows as well to shorten the boot time, because even if it saves me half a second, that's half a second that I'm not staring at the stupid Windows flag I don't need to stare at.

No genius here. Editing the stock boot animation is not that difficult.

Droid Shatter is sweet and pretty quick on Pete's BB.
Having said that, Pete's DROID boot anim is the fastest.

HERE are a few of the ones I created for Team Chaos.

And HERE is one I made for Bugless Beast.

I have a few others floating around somewhere that I forgot the links to...sorry.

I LOVE the redrum bootanimation. I had never seen that before just now.

I have one somewhat similar to that which I downloaded from alldroid, but I can't even remember now who did it, nor can I (for obvious reasons) link to the release thread. :( It was another beautiful one. I have always been a sucker for that "pc loading" effect... the scrolling command lines and such.

Fadelight, I think that most, if not all, of the bootanimations from Alldroid were rescued and posted here: [Gallery] bootanimation.zip + install guide
