I'm going to assume you are new and haven't figured out what "search" is yet...

that being said. Welcome to the forums!!

and the best keyboard (most on this site will agree with me) is Swype (NOT skype, I didn't spell it wrong). You can find the files and instructions to download on this site, I'm just to lazy to find it for you.

    hope this helps.

Swype! It has to be the only app I'd be willing to pay for (when it comes out of beta). Just add a VTT button and I'm good to go.

swype is a great keyboard, takes some getting used to though

if your looking for a "tap" style keyboard try the "swiftkey" keyboard I loved it before I joined the "swype" cult :p

I much prefer Shapewriter over Swype. Swype's secondary key function layout is nuts. Shapewriter also seems more natural to me when correcting a word.

Just joined the Swype club last night as well. It's awesome. The only thing it doesn't have currently is a voice to talk button...but it's still amazing!

Typing, especially with the phone vertical was a nightmare.

Try Swype, you will love it!

If you use Handcent with swype you get the mic button. Just have to hit menu key and it is right there. :).

I just checked on Chomp as I downloaded it to compare to Handcent and it is not there on Chomp.

+1 on Shapewriter. I tried Swype and Shapewriter and ended up liking Shapewriter much better.

I would say try both, stick with whatever works for you.

What are the major benefits of ShapeWriter vs. Swype? I love Swype, but haven't tried ShapeWriter. I won't have time to play around with it until the weekend, so any advice would be appreciated.

You could keep both on your phone for different scenarios i guess. Its really easy to switch between them, long tap your text box and click imput method. That simple.

I'm using Ultra Keyboard as I wanted something that supported XT9 and matched my Blackberry Pearl keyboard. Good support, build your own custom skins for it easily.

I tried one of the other ones like swype and hated it in landscape otherwise i would have kept it. It had a big box on the left of the screen in landscape.

    Edit:

Just checked it was shapewriter. Blah. Kinda want to try slideit but its too much money. Running swype right now.

I saw the screenshot of slideit. It looks exactly like swype. Don't understand what are the advantages on slideit.

I tried Swype and hated it - I just can't get the hang of it. I type so fast on a traditional keyboard that a tap keyboard was far more intuitive for me. If you are looking for a tap keyboard, I'm using Better Keyboard.

Longpress on a text input box (go to google search or something like that) and a pop-up will appear giving you the option to change your input method. Tap on that, then tap on Shapewriter.

I downloaded and installed Swype but can't pull it up in my Input Method menu. It's just not there. I've tried reinstalling but no luck.

Shapewriter is nice but the punctuation sucks and there's not VTT.
