is it made from the cheap, crack prone plastic that the iPhone 3GS' back is made from? I currently have an iPhone 4 but the EVO is really tempting me!

Plastic. Just like my home phone I've had for years and it hasn't cracked.

Guess if I get the EVO I'm going with the black because I like the feel of the soft rubber-like back cover. and your home phone isn't moving around all the time and being slipped in and out of pockets, so bad reference.

Being that the black and white one are the same phone from the same manufacturer, What makes you think they're not identical materials in two different colors?

because the black back is more of a matte finish and the white is shiny which means it's made out of a different material.

I love the black case. It has a nice grip to it. Practically supports itself in my hand.

Maybe because there are already 2 different backs for the evo, even in black?
My friend's is harder while mine is soft and rubbery.

The black has a rubberized coating and the white one is just glossy white that gets scratched easier.

I can attest to the white plastic cracking. My 2nd replacement and current EVO is a white one, 003. The second day I had it, I noticed that the plastic was cracking just below my power button on the white bezel. Very small, but i noticed that I could chip it away with a fingernail or if it got caught on something if I am not careful. You can see the red undercoating starting to show. I will try and get a picture.

    I'm guessing pixie dust.

Oh, for the love of gods, it's a phone, it's probably made of plastic like the black one.

<yes, I'm being facetious and tired of all this discussion about the "white" device, it's a color, not a revelation>
