Here is why I think the Bionic will use the OMAP 4460 instead of the OMAP 4430

At 800x480 the Tegra2 has better benchmarks than the OMAP 4430. Since the two track so closely, we can assume a qHD 4430 will perform about the same as the Tegra2 on the Atrix.

To be a super phone, the Bionic will have to come in with more potent hardware to really outshine the Atrix and Photon. At the same time, I hope Motorola has added some optimizations to the hardware and Blur to bump up qHD performance of Tegra2

viber, can you explain a little 'bit? I'm a little 'bit ignorant when it comes to reading benchmarks and what not, so I never really paid much attention to them.

From looking at the graph, it looks like the Droid 3 got better benchmarks than the Atrix, so would that not translate to the Bionic more than likely having better results than the Photon and Atrix?

Nontheless, the other question I had about these benchmarks is, what do these benchmarks really represent? Do they represent which devices will be the most responsive to regular functions (e.g. scrolling, multi-tasking, etc.) or are these benchmarks simply for how well the phone will respond to graphics, games, and video?

The Droid3 is running a 800x480 screen resolution, while the Atrix is running a qHD screen, so the Droid3 is actually doing less work. In benchmarks it has better numbers than it would if it were doing the same work as the Atrix.

FYI, the Galaxy S2 has the same resolution screen as the Droid3, which is partly why it looks amazing on paper.

As to what these numbers mean in the real world outside of gaming, not much in day to day use provided the graphical overlay isn't too bloated and resource hungry. Motoblur is a great example. It's disgustingly bad so it ruins Tegra2 performance, while the older Nexus S 4G is a screamer, and super responsive because there is no bloat eating up CPU cycles

Thanks so much for clarifying that. So my main concentration on performance on the photon in comparison to my evo would be a no brainer, since the benchmarks have little to do with day to day use. And the photon, on paper, should blow my evo out of the water on day 2 day performance even with all the bloatware and ui being a performance hog. I still love my evo, although at times I wished it were slightly more responsive over 1 year having it, but that's also never having rooted it.

Your answer basically summarized why the photon is looking like the best upgrade choice for me.

I don't know if I can hold out. The Evo 3d is aval for me right now and I just love new phones I know I won't use the 3d at all but sense 3.0 is looking really nice right about now. What can I say ....I'm a phone whore

Yeah, I definitely did. But a lot of the publications/blogs out there, prior to the June 9 event, were saying either Atrix or Droid 2.

Hahaha...I'm definitely planning to go into a Sprint store, just to check out the EVO 3D w/ Sense 3.0.

Thing is, I haven't used HTC Sense in so long now (especially because I was getting so many force close errors before), that I can't imagine using any launcher over either Launcher Pro Plus or Go Launcher Ex. I love the scrolling dock! Only reason I haven't switched to Go Launcher Ex is because of the Launcher Pro Plus widgets. Thing is, someone referred me to the colorized widgets app that seems to do the same thing, so I may give that the 30 day trial, once the official release date is announced for this phone.

Sense 3.0 is pretty slick. It's obvious HTC has learned a great deal about what people value in an interface. Speedy, graphical, easy on the eyes, large widgets with plenty of on tap information. Furthermore, it looks nothing like iOS

Samsung's Touchwiz on the other hand is incredibly boring, and the widgets suck. Also, I am no fan of Samsung wanting to be Apple-like.

Motorola's Motorblur is a bloated laggy mess, but I actually like their widgets a bit more than Samsung's but it is on the drab side compared to Sense.

If I had to choose an overlay, it would be Sense 3.0, though really, I prefer Pure Google.

I agree about Touchwiz. I have an Epic on one of my secondary lines. The person that uses that phone doesn't mind it, but my first thought about the UI was how ugly the widgets were...LOL.

As far as UI is concerned, it's LPP or Go Launcher Ex for me. Stock UI's don't have enough customizations for what I like to see or not see on my phone homescreens.

It's slightly different circumstances. The Atrix was a complete flop, so Motorola needs to move as many as possible by whatever means necessary before the public gets a whiff of iPhone 4S or iPhone 5, whichever it is. Bloomberg wrote today that we can bank on September, after which demand for the Atrix on AT&T will drop down to zero.

The Photon will have a different playing field on Sprint, so that could impact Motorola's mindset at launch.

I wonder how well this phone will sell to the general consumer, as compared to the "android" community. Obviously, the locked bootloader is a huge issue for many, but as far as the general consumer is concerned, I wonder if Sprint/Motorola will put in extra efforts to make this the "ideal business phone."

So far, this phone is as closed to locked in as my #1 choice for upgrade.

To be honest here, I would be more excited for the Photon 4G than the EVO 3D. Like I stated before, I played with the E3D yesterday at radioshack. The guy there was nice enough to let me use it for a couple minutes. The screen is gorgeous but I prefer the screen size of the EVO better. Sense 3.0 is pretty good but there are some aspects of it that I do not like. I know this is nitpicking but I do not like how they did the wallpapers on this one. Instead of swiping left to right, it just a carasal. I like the older style better. I just hope future HTC phones are not like this. If it is, I'm just going to have to look else where. I'm not upgrading anytime soon. But if I were to choose, I would pick the Photon hands down. It has a kickstand and none of that 3D stuff.

Isn't the screen size the same? Actually, now that I think about it, I think the 3D is wider in landscape viewing, but more narrow in portrait, right?
  19. Orion

    Orion Well-Known Member

Yeah the screen is more wider but more narrow. I just think that the EVO screen size is just perfect.

I'm kinda wondering if it'll be the same thing with the Photon though, since the resolution is the same as the EVO 3D.

I would probably still root the phone because there are plenty of developers willing to make awesome roms for phones and this one won't be any different.
